I traded my '01 S2000 in on my 328i and was surprised to see the gas mileage improvement of the BMW over the Honda. My numbers are generally similar to yours, although iDrive typically overstates my actual mileage by 1.5 to 2.0 mpg.

getting about 16 mpg with 90% city 10% highway.
I drive quite conservatively too (don't even have a chance to gun it much, and when I do it's more for necessity...) I have yet to put the pedal to the floor. Mostly in comfort mode.. can't remember the last time I've been in sport. Unimpressed to say the least haha but not really surprised. 91 octane. http://www.fuelly.com/driver/gerbs/335i

Latest fillup was 27MPG. So far, the first tanks have been:
26.3MPG, 24.8MPG, 26.8MPG, 27MPG. All using Chevron 91 octane winter blend in California. Overall average in the AH3 is 26.3mpg over the first 1200 miles. My previous A4 2.0T averaged 23.7mpg over 35,000 miles. The first 4 fillups of the A4 were 20.5, 21.0, 16.7, and 22.9mpg. So far, I'm extremely impressed by this car. More than 100HP additional power, but better fuel economy. I know I would not be getting these kinds of numbers with a 335i -- that'd probably be slightly worse than the A4 with my driving style. |

Is that possible that tires make that big a difference? |

Wheel size should not matter as the tires should be properly sized so that the rolling diameter is unchanged as you swap between summer and winter wheels.
Winter mileage drops with temperature as frictional losses greatly increase. |

And with non-sport package, the stock Pirelli tires are low-rolling-resistance. I agree that winter mileage drops with the temperature drop and the use of winter fuel, but I don't think the change of tires / wheels can be totally ignored either. |

Agreed, the difference is probably negligible. I was pretty surprised when very underinflated tires were only shown to decrease fuel economy by 5% or so.

I drove down to Orlando and back. I was doing about 90mph most of the time and I got 30.4mpg for the whole trip. I think that is pretty damn good.

That's pretty good. I'd be pretty satisfied with that since I was getting 21.1 in my E90 335. I'm picking mine up tomorrow and I'm not sure how I will be able to sleep tonight. |

So the Monroney sticker indicates 20 city 30 highway with an expected average of 24 for my 2013 335xi. After the first tank of gas and a 50/50 mix of comfort and Eco, I've traveled 347 miles at an average speed of 31.2 mph and managed to get 24.6 mpg. Actual mpg closer to 23.5 (350 miles / 14.9 gallons) at fill-up.

How do you guys avg such high mileage? This is on my latest trip. Almost all highway as you can see be average speed it was probably a couple miles to the golf course once i got off the freeway. I even reset the trip meter while on the highway already.
I thought it would at least be 30mpg with that much highway miles. |
