DIY Under dash Kick panel Rattle fix

If there is something that is not clear or you get stuck just post it up here or shoot me a PM and Ill be glad to help out. Good luck guys. I have a CD I use to pin point rattles and buzzing noise, and I found a few rattles that I have already fixed. This one is the main rattle everyone seems to be complaining about and is consistant with many cars. __________________

No problem. I found more. Its the nature of a new car and I have a Feb. build so all the little bugs are comin out to play. My nav screen creeks when really cold, so Im gonna have to address this issue as well. I also found a smal tick in the center console I need to fix as well. I did say once you fix one it will be like a dominoe effect and more rattles will show up. Im fixing it one by one. Itll get there.

Can you let us know if the dealer agrees/fixes this for you? I have the same problem with my HK audio bass. its some nasty rattling and I'm embarrassed to crank up the volume.

and thanks OP for this!

Oh my god, someone else that finally understands what I'm going through! I have a 2013 335i sedan (sport line) and it's rattling all over the inside! It's been to the dealer 3 times for the rattles and it still does it! Last time they tried putting some kind of glue stuff between the pieces in the center console, but it still makes noise. The display housing is noisy, the rear view mirror, drivers door panel, audio control panel, and all the aluminum trim. Help!

Keep taking it back to the dealer, I have very similar issues. I fix them myself as I go but its just too much. And the dealer will report these issues in the repair writeup so BMW knows about the issue and can correct it.

I have a noise top front drivers side only when the moon roof is open on tilt and Im doing about 70-75+mph its like a grinding sound. I cant figure out what the hell it is. Impossible to replicate the noise when the car is still and no wind is flowing through the panels.

Quick question, do you know where the air filter is, I read somewhere that its behind the dash? Sorry just fishing for an answer... I've got this weird noise coming from my blower, like something's stuck in there.

Your air filter should be under the hood. You have to take apart the leaf screen to get to it. I wasnt aware that they put the filter under the dash, as the blower motor design remained relatively unchanged from the e9X from what I see.

Can I use electrical tape instead of rattle tape? Would you recommend it?

You can try it. But electrical tape is really thin. The squeak and rattle tape is thicker like 4 or 5mm. So it acts like a jam in between plastic.
The whole thing behind the rattle tape is its soft and padded so it wont make plastic to plastic noise, and prevents the parts from buzzing.

You should be able to find some sort of soft patch type tape at Home Depot or Lowes.

I didn't go to the extent as the OP, but I did do the foam pads near the 10mm screws and between the kick panel and floor panel and it all worked very nicely. Squeaks are virtually gone. Thanks for this post!

Glad it worked out for you . The rattles can get old really fast on a nice relaxing cruise.

Just wanted to say thanks for this post and that window foam insulation tape works well. This got rid of 90% of the rattles and squeaks in my car. At least I'm not going crazy looking/smashing at my glovebox all the time anymore. Now to look for the remaining 10%...
