Yeah I think we need to figure really which way they are facing. I'm not sure what is the degree of the sensors so off they detect equally the same all around I guess it doesn't matter which way the plugs are facing.

How far down did you sand it? I'm afraid of going too far where it starts to get too close to the sensor.

For the CA, did you figure out where those 5 wires go from the door handle harness to the FEM? I couldn't find them anywhere in ISTA/D to save my life...

I did sand then pretty good. The way roxxor had then down in his pic. Where you can see the ring around the sensor. I used 1800 automotive sand paper. I did a wet sand.

As far as the wires I couldn't figure out where that extra 1 wire was going. All the schematics said 4 wire + ground. I do know where the 5 wires go and they match my current setup..
So I'm going by based on my options a new locking mechanism isn't needed. We will know when the wiring harness arrives. If it has 6 wires going to the door locking mechanism then I'm in trouble. Lol

I asked my body shop how they painted it (not blaiming them just wondering)
they said 1 coat of primer. 3 coats paint and 2 coats are clear. (ontop of the already black painted sensors

I sanded down all the way past the original black paint.
applied 2 coats paint and one clear coat with the touch up pen (sanded in between layers too keep things smooth).

put it back on my car and BAM lag is gone

So sanding it to metal is a bad thing? Crap

I haven't got an email from Partsale but I guess it's coming...

No shouldn't be bad. Honestly the white on the sensors felt like a primer but it was too smooth to paint so I sanded then down so the paint catches.
I didn't use primer.
As far as partsale they won't send you one unless you ask for status on your order. Last year it took 3 months to get my pdc cable but I was hoping I can get the back up camera little faster but right now I'm at 2 and half. We just have to wait.

crap... 3 months? its been only a month for me before i got impatient and sent them a query. fortunately then, i decided not to wait till that PDC order arrived before ordering the camera retrofit cable kit - pulled the trigger on that order last Thursday. lets see if we both get it at the same time...

I've been reading this post with great interest as I too would like to retrofit PDC to my car. Some quick questions:

I see that f30GTR tried using the latest REM but was wondering if that's more hassle to deal with coding issues rather than waiting for a 700 to appear on Ebay?

I'm still clueless on coding. I just got an ENET-to-OBD cable but now need a quick primer in how to code the car. There's a lot of stuff to go through. Can someone PM me a link to the best way to get started. I don't want to brick my car or disable half of it when I swap out the REM.

BTW this a fantastic post. Thanks to all who have contributed.

Thanks RSnic. I'm going for it. REM ordered. Sensors ordered.

Now if I can just get that retrofit kit. How dumb is it that in North America you can order PDC for your car but not the wire that connects PDC to the car? What magic is required to get that cable out of the clutches of the dealer? So someone rear ends my PDC-equipped car and it takes a week to replace the bumper and a month to fix PDC? Will try again tomorrow with the dealer 'insider'.

TIP: I guarantee that if there is hole or gap, no matter how small, a bolt or screw will fall into it. Just as a black hole can suck in light, small, impossible to reach gaps will grab one, and only one, critical screw or bolt. Of course that getting that bolt or screw back will ruin your afternoon and turn an easy job into total hell.

The secret is to simply block all holes, gaps or other places screws can fall into with a rag or cloth. This has saved so much time it should be in every instruction manual.

If anyone was successful at getting the cable let me know. I guess I need the mounts as well. Oh, and those BMW tie wraps. Maybe the Polish place has a kit.

I ordered mine from Partsale.eu. I just got confirmation from them that it shipped a couple of days ago FINALLY (verified with a DHL tracking number woohoo). The bad news is that i made the order back on 3/10. So a little over 2 months ago. But i consider myself lucky as some have waited 3 months for them. You just have to be patient, as i know of no other way of sourcing this part, other than the hit/miss method of junk yard salvaging.

THe mounts and the other smaller pieces can all be ordered state-side from various on-line sites. Don't understand why ordering the cable is such a bitch..

Just confirmed the rear PDC repair cable is a splice. Found a photo of it on ECSTuning.

Could it be manipulated to fit into the connector?

MennCars,

Here's something that may help. Just checked ECS Tuning and they had the following listed:
  • $39.66: 51117324343, front bumper PDC repair kit.
  • $31.33, 61129313607, PDC front apron cables
  • 51128059970 PDC Mounts
These I could not find in US:
  • 66202339614 Rear PDC retrofit kit
  • 66202338070 Front PDC Install kit

As I checked my records, in fact, I did like Roxxor and SquidlyBoy and ordered the above two items from PartsSal.EU -- and it took a little over 2 months to get to me.

Hmm...

Hey Rsnic - is this the same/compatible retrofit cables for the front PDCs - i.e. 66202338070? I haven't ordered mine yet (wasn't looking forward to waiting another 2 months). Sounds a little too good to be true (and the cost seems like its waay too good to be true at $31)

SquidlyBoy,

I don't think so -- that's why I ordered from non-US source and waited like you are doing now.

But can that be used in the rear?

I've looked at these parts and there is a possibility they might work:

51120432250 - PDC Sensor mounts (Non-M) ~$30
61119293040 - PDC Repair cable ~$20
12527545858KT - Bushing pack of 10 ~$10

So roughly $50 but no rubber rings. Could be a problem. I'm guessing the sensors when sold new have them.

I also wonder whether it's better to feed the wires through the existing grommet that has wires running through it or order the kit and cut a new hole in the sheet metal. My only concern is, once cut how do I ensure the cut surface is treated properly for corrosion? I'd like to avoid cutting sheet metal so as not to have a that problem.

Yeah, I wasn't sure why Rsnic was quoting you cables for the front PDC's in the rear PDC retrofit thread. I only asked him about them since i'm looking for the front kit myself (for later).

And for the front PDC, he said the repair cable was not going to cut it as far as trying to do a retrofit goes. I gotta guess the repair cable for the rears isn't going to work either, so i'm doubly confused why he listed it. I think i paid a little over $100 for my rear PDC retrofit kit (66202339614). But at $20, maybe its worth the risk to see? Worst case is that you can sell if its not right.

As far as the hole goes, Roxxor seemed to indicate in his OP that even though he used the existing hole, it was a PITA to get the grommet back into the hole (don't know if he eventually got it back on or not), and he didn't recommend it. I'm planning on cutting a new hole myself, but i live in a very dry arid desert environment where rust and corrosion is not an issue.

Seems like you are going the budget route.. if you get the Ebay VataPro sensors, they come with the rubber rings. You may also want to get some BMW touch up paint to match the color if you care about that.

Guys,

Sorry for the confusion; I mistakenly went back through all of the parts I ordered and shouldn't have listed front PDC cables; indeed, the eBay VataPro sensors come with plastic rings

FYI: Latest REM (61359362394)

Just waiting for parts to come in with the REM being the first to arrive two days ago. It is a fully loaded REM with all pins. See photo. The part number is

61-35-9-362-394 (61359362394 for those searching on this instead of a dashed part #)

If my sensors arrive with rings I'll see if I can use the repair kit to attach the sensors to the REM. If not, I'll need to grab the upgrade kit from somewhere. Will update as I proceed. As far as I know I should be able to add the new REM by injecting the CAF file using only Esys. Is it as easy as previously described by RSnic? Or should I get a hold of another tool?

MennCars,

I guess the REM you ordered is the "newest" part as the one I got (which is working fine) is 61359329700. The change out of the REMs was easy, but watch the little plastic latches (I inadvertently snapped one -- but so far no problems) -- if I recall a couple of bolts and connectors as per Roxxor's original instructions. Once you have swapped out REMs, hook up E-Sys to your car; here's what I did to inject CAFD into the new REM:
  • Click on Read FA/VO
  • Right Click & Activate FA/VO
  • Click on Read SVT(
  • Left Click on REM (not CAFD)
  • Click on Detect CAF from SWE (center right of screen)
  • Select CAFD matching your car's I-level
  • Select OK

If you ordered your sensors from VataPro on eBay, they'll come with opaque white plastic rings.

Hope that helps
