The radio station sends out that info, it's not stored via the car.

More like a inside joke from the radio station. Those tags are set by the station.

It's the song by Pink, BLOW ME...One last Kiss.

It comes up that way on purpose, it's her way of getting it through as a double entendre.

Sounds like someone from the BMW factory who program your car has a good sense of humor

I don't see how it would be possible... someone in the factory would have to not only know 106.7 exists as a real station, but would have to have the know-how to change the coding on the ECU to display "Blow Me" when that station was displayed. The code would probably have to be injection based, so that future updates to the ECU's software did not overwrite the new software.

Using Occam's Razor would suggest that "Blow Me" was sent by the radio station incorrectly as the station name and is being stored as the station name in the car. The car probably keeps the names cached so that it doesn't have to go out and get them every time you start the car.

So yeah... totally an inside joke...

I recommend you call WXXL and ask them why their RDS service is not working properly.

It "always" says BLOW JOB because you a) have RDS on and b) stored this as a preset. You must have stored the option at the exact moment Pink was, ahem, deciding what to do.

Hit options, turn off RDS and you'll see the frequency re-appear. Store that in the preset. Your split screen in this shot is set to show "entertainment details" and indicates that WXXL is broadcasting in HD. That obviates the need for RDS -- which is the legacy analog method of sending artist and track data to receivers. HD stations almost always transmit artist/track data. But HD information is not RDS.

This drove me crazy until I realized I didn't need RDS on to see artist/track data in entertainment details for HD stations.

Remember: HD radio doesn't stand for "high-definition" radio. It means "hybrid" radio. In this case, there are two sources of text info because old RDS receivers need the analog text system to display anything at all.

Your local radio station is using the RDS tag to broadcast the name of the song instead of the station name. Very common around here.

The problem is that iDrive don't constantly update it. I used to have another non-iDrive E90 and the RDS tag was updated in real time.
