Why are the guages pink!?

You will find many pics in this thread to what I am referring to: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=616019

Look at all the pics of the gauges. Why are they pink? This is very annoying. Why can't they do white gauges? I went to my local BMW dealership and turned on the lights and they were the same pink as shown in the pics. This is a major deal breaker for me.

Some examples:

Ok, so apparently one of us is colorblind. I don't know how those pictures you posted show anything that anyone would call "pink".

BMW always had red/orange gauges. It is less tiring to the eye at night, requiring less adjustment of the eye when the environment is dark.

P.S. It is also possible that you got to whatever age that you are while completely misunderstanding the meaning of the word "pink". This is unlikely, but would be hilarious if true.

White balance might be off on them. Trust me, it's not pink, it's amber.

+1 for me. BMW was one of the first to pioneer ergonomics in their driver's compartment which included amber lighting for night time driving. Lots of cars used to have amber lighting. I had a 1987 Mazda RX7 turbo 2 which was all amber. Amber lighting is very easy on the eyes at night. Then the car companies seemed to drift away - reinventing the wheel so to speak. BMW stayed the course.

Fine you guys can call it amber, but it has a serious pinkish hue to it.

Here is pic of the F10 M-Sport which has white gauges: http://f10.5post.com/forums/attachme...8&d=1309760220

Bad for night vision

Likely changes color to amber when it gets dark anyway.

No, it doesn't. They're amber/orange. Always have been. Just like that F10 at night.

Stick to Lexus.

Have you ever owned a BMW? The gauges are white while in day mode and amber in night mode.

If you based your car buying decision on the color of the gauges, you should probably stick to Infiniti.

My gauges is white during the date and amber at night. No pick anywhere. You must be colorblind.

Where are you guys coming up with pink or amber? During the day light they are WHITE and at night time they are RED/ ORANGE. BMW's have been like that forever. They use the same system that is used in air planes.
cheers

As far as the photos go, the OP has a point. I zoomed into two spots on the speedo and it is pinkish. HOWEVER, what so many people on the internets fail to realize is the concept of WHITE BALANCE. It is a bit off in those photos. You have to also consider context. In the photos, it is indeed "pinkish" because the white balance is off and the context of the photos.

In real life, the official color is "Amber" but it's more like a Red-Orange. If you see a little pink in real life, that's normal. However, it should be more Red-Orange. As far as it being a deal-breaker.... really? Jeez. If that puts you off, then I don't think anyone at BMW will miss you.

No, pinkish hue here...

As for the picture you posted, that's a daytime shot, the amber lighting comes on when your headlights are activated (even for the F10s).

Sorry it's pink for you.

Honestly if instrument gauge lighting is a "deal breaker" then you should probably be in a Scion.

Just me or is this thread full of FAIL?

It's either good for ergonomics no matter what color you call it or your self conscious and should get something that changes colors, such as a scion, Kia or Honda. Also anyone coming from a Lexus product has no meaningful opinion, they want a car that gets from a to b with old man comfort not the ultimate driving machine.
