Car starts to vibrate at 130+ kph (81+ mph). Anybody else?

I haven't been on a highway drive in a long time but today I decided to go on a fairly long trip. I have noticed that every time I hit 130 kph (81 mph), the car starts to vibrate/shudder. Even at 170 kph (106 mph) it continues to do so, so it's safe to assume that it happens at 130+.

It's quite noticeable and it's the first time that I have experienced this in 18 months of ownership. Has this happened to anybody else and what could possibly be the problem?

I had a slight vibration when I first picked up my car and brought it back to have the tires rebalanced. That did the trick. Why it now showed up after 18 months for you sounds odd? Has anything recently stuck to the inner surface of the wheel? Splash of mud? Asphalt/road tar? How about a wheel weight suddenly missing?

Yeah I was thinking it has something to do with wheel balancing/alignment.
I've checked but nothing seems to have stuck on the wheel. Maybe there is a weight missing though. Thanks.

I always check my wheels/tires for stones stuck in the tread. I once found a large piece of asphalt stuck to the inner wheel surface (then remembered when I went thru a section of highway where they were paving). A bubble in the tire (hit a pot hole lately?) could also cause the vibration.

On my E90 this was happening because of a fuel sensor, went away when I had it replaced. Of course, it was also going into limp mode as well.

Thanks man, I'll take a look at my wheels too.

Hope this is not happening to me now. How did the fuel sensor cause the vibration though?

I think it was preventing the correct amount of fuel being given to the engine or something, anything over 80mph caused pretty violent shaking.

I doubt that it's the problem you have but it was a $400 fix for me...keep in mind I had 125k miles on my car when it happened.

I was about to report the same issue (1 month of ownership). The vibration is not in the steering wheel, but the car. I noticed my legs vibrating. 435i xDrive M Sport. I will take it back for a wheel balancing/alignment and report back.

This is more than likely tire/wheel related; it's not out of the question to have an out-of-round RFT tire or a slightly bent wheel or a missing wheel weight from the initial balancing. There's a slight possibility it could be related to an unbalanced driveshaft, but it's more likely something to do with wheels or tires.

Thanks, I also think it has something to do with that. I'll report back later..

If it's a whole car type of vibration, high odds it's your driveshaft. Had this problem with a buddy's track built Mustang
