Just realised where you picked up your new toy. Hope to see it on the road in the flesh. You shouldn't be too hard to spot. :-)

Yeah hope to see you driving around in little old Adelaide. I don't see too many 335i's aroound at all, yet alone a Silver one. Too expensive here in Australia due to our LCT and GST !!!! |

Yes, the tax man sucks, and the 335i is comparatively expensive, but worth it (I love straight sixes). However, it's still the cheapest BMW I have ever bought (shows what an idiot I have been in the past , as my wife will attest to and vocalise over ).

There will be another MG 335i M-Sport running around the streets of Adelaide in about 10 weeks.

Out of interest, what do you think of the A5 and what made you move from the dark side to the 335i? I was quite interested in the A5 myself, but went back to BMW again.

The A5 is indeed a lovely car and I still think Audi does interiors the best amongst its direct peers. However it hasn't moved on since I bought mine 4 years ago. There have been a couple of minor changes in the MMI and some treatments but the current B8 based cars (A4/A5/Q5) are a bit tired now. Despite the four seats it's roomier inside than the F30 and the hatch boot is noticeably larger. The A5 is an unfortunate paradox - it's low slung, stiffly suspended in my S-Line model, four extremely comfortable sports seats, 7-speed DSG and some quick numbers in the 3.0TDI, so it looks and thinks it's a sporty car. And then you have the tune - the steering rack is very slow meaning you're shuffling going around a minor bend, the DSG even in sports mode is slow to change gears, and in drive mode is dangerously and randomly lethargic. There's just a constant feeling of disconnect from the driving experience that is entirely at odds with its look and the raw numbers. The real issue I have is all the current B8 models don't feel like a significant step forward from what I have, and that's a 6 or 7 year old basic design. The F30 feels like a newer car to drive, and it's much more engaging. I was seriously considering an S4 but the local Audi dealer who I bought the A5 off wasn't at all helpful so after giving him three tries and six weeks to put a deal in front of me I wrote that option off. The local BMW dealer was very keen to do a deal, and started from an aggressive position, although I'm not impressed with the lack of communication now I've paid my deposit. The A5 still does look great in my eyes however, and it's lovely to sit in, but after 4 years the finance is up and I feel it's time to move on. Oh, and nice car! |
