DHP + Msport questions
Guys,
I am looking to order an M-Sport 335i...I dont really know what the DHP does, I tried searching as well. My questions are as follows: 1. Can you modify the suspension later if you get the DHP w/ the M-Sport package 2. What does VSS actually do. Does it make the steering more like the n54 cars? I dislike the electronic steering alot, and trying to figure out if VSS will help that 3. The msport by its self comes with m suspension, what does the DHP add other than VSS. $1000 for VSS not sure if worth it? 4. Will DHP help me take turns faster say in the auto-x? Or is it really just a "comfort" option Thanks for input, i really dont understand what it does. |

If you always want stiff steering drive always in sport mode but thats going to kill your gas. Adaptive m suspension is part of DHP. |

If you get DHP you can alter sport settings so that you have sport chassis, but comfort drivetrain...which means stiffer steering with better gas savings.

I should note that i am getting the 6MT...so all the sport setting would do is change the suspension and my MPG should not change...since I choose when to shift...correct?

There are guys here that have added aftermarket springs like H&R in conjunction with DHP and quite happy.

However, I wouldn't let this impression of "loose" steering put you off. |

Sport and Sport+ change the throttle mappings (throttle is much more sensitive, or rather not as dull as it is in Comfort or Eco) so I can see how you would *tend* to use more gas in that mode. Probably why I only get 17MPG as I prefer it over Comfort for the steering feel, and the throttle response. Comfort (don't even know what Eco is like) just feels like you have to give it 75% throttle to get it to move.

If you want to drop for looks, then H&R springs with the DHP dampers will work fine. If you want to track/have properly matched struts/springs, then don't get DHP. DHP comes with adjustable electronic dampers which you'll just throw out. Put the money towards aftermarket coils or M performance suspension if you want to stick with OEM gear.
The VSS is another issue, but most people get DHP for the following reasons 1) Driving around town in comfort mode (more floaty) when wanted; 2) DHP + sport suspension is stiffer/rides flatter in sport mode than just sport suspension; 3) If you get xdrive there is no other way to get a stiffer ride since xdrive removes sport suspension from either Sport or M-Sport trims. Hope that helps! |

I have a related question, I am also looking at the 335i, is the sport line worthy of the price if I'm going to add the DHP. Would the money be better spent on a different option say the sport transmission.
I'm in US and on a tightish budget, around 3-4k, for options and would also be interested to know what people here would choose in that case? Would anyone go for a better equipped 328i? Thanks all. I would have probably created a different thread for this but being new don't have the permissions yet. |

Also, many people would choose a loaded 328i over stripped 335i. You need to test drive both and see if the differences between them compel you one way or the other. |

If you liked the E90 steering thn you will be disappointed with the F30. I recently had an E90 loaner for a week and coming back to the F30 was very noticeable (I used to have an E46). Sport mode tightens thing up a little, but BMW is looking to reach a different segment of the market. Since it is electric, I have been asking my dealer about a coding fix, but no luck yet (stands to reason that since steering can be "tightened" up in the first place, then it can be programmed to fix thing a little more in say comfort mode too.

I'm NOT coming from an older BMW, but I feel that the steering is just right. Are people liking the truck-like steering weight of older cars or is there something else going on? I know when taking corners tight I don't like an overly heavy steering because it slows me down.
