Real Carbon Fibre Wrapping - UPDATE Pictures Heavy

I have been wanting to do this mod long time and finally got round doing it and here are some pictures of process and final result .

either i write whole process or just share this video which is very helpful and i just followed every step from this video and learnt rest as when went along in process .

This is bank holiday weekend so starting interior trim tomorrow so hopefully it should look like F80 interior

Thanks to roll_the_dice for sharing his thread and got me started on this mod

That looks bloody good workmanship there dude.

Have to admit I saw that video along with all the kit but I bottled it. In the end I had a set of interior trim cf wrapped for me by some chap in Bulgaria !! He did a really good job and even left the trimstrip unwrapped for me .

Prefer it to a vinyl wrap seems to have more depth

Kudos to you for dong it yourself.

The finish when seen on the video was ok but not excellent, don't think my OCD would approve no matter how much cheaper than OEM

Thanks mate and don't blame you for bottling it coz I nearly did half way down coz it is too much work but satisfied in the end by doing it yourself

It is a lot more work than most people know...that is the main reason why CF is so expensive...the labor and tooling to do it right. As time goes by you will get better and better and learn techniques that work for you. I vacuum bag everything now, just different methods...similar results.

I just bagged a seat back...

Holy smokes , you are an absolute legend mate

I know what you mean by labour and tools , it's expensive stuff and you only get one shot to do it right .

I think I came across Carbon Mods stuff a while ago when I was contemplating doing the same thing. Also watched a few vids by a German or Scandinavian couple who demo'd sheeting a desk lamp. Very good video with excellent results. As has been suggested, its time consuming and not for the faint hearted.

I actually like the slightly rawer looking finish where you can see the weave and it is obvious its CF. Even with some pukka OEM CF pieces, the lacquered finish is so highly polished and deep that it loses the baseness of the CF and actually can look like a vinyl wrap. I've got some old Porsche OEM CF interior parts and they look like a shiny vinyl wrap. I want the interior to look like a DTM car with deep weave and a rugged functional look

Has a lovely holographic look and sheen that you wouldn't get with a wrap.

These are for a guy with an M3 e92, but I am going to do my F30 soon as well. I have done about 4 sets of seat backs...they are definitely not for the faint of heart...big piece with a lot of bends and curves.

This picture is after only 2 coats of resin...a dreaded flash on the camera never shows the true beauty of CF.

Fella i used to knock about with done "carbon fibre skinning" and used to run about with him, as he done all the black detailings on my E46 Touring and destroyed them. The resin reacted with the plastics and they warped. And he basically had no interest in replacing them. Just take note of that for future ref!!

It is unfortunate he didn't replace your parts...I would have never let you know it happened..but I also provide parts if needed. I keep replacement parts on hand also, just in case things don't go right.

I have skinned over 100 full sets of BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, and other car trim over the last 4 years and have never had any parts warp from the resin...I think he must have used the wrong kind of resin. There are some resins that bond metal parts to CF and yes they get much hotter, so the right resin for the right situation is key.

Good reminder though to make sure the correct materials are used.
