F30 A/C noise.

Has anyone got issues with their A/C noise?
Mine has a weird noise when i turn my A/C on but it's gone once i turn off the A/C.
Booked my car for a check up by BMW already but just want to see if anyone else has this problem.

Thanks in advance

I get unusual fan noises too, but nothing to warrant a trip to the dealer man

Apparently unusual fan noise (when the air-con is on) could be due to leaves being sucked into the air inlet for air-conditioning. I just had mine looked at by BMW Melbourne yesterday, they cleaned it and now it is back to normal.

BMW Germany has come up with a net to cover the inlet to prevent re-occurrence but mine is on back order. So I am guessing with autumn and tree leaves on the street I will be getting that noise again soon.

This is different to the compressor that makes funny noises every now and then - at least for me.

This has been an issue for quid a few people who have posted similar issues on the main international thread. Others have had paper lodge in the fan's inlet.

So will they only fit it if there's a problem?

I would suggest so, unless it's deemed to be a fix when you next bring your car in for service.

If they are sensible they would fit one as soon as your car comes in. I would imagine left unattended to damage could be done to the aircon unit which given Australian summer would easily become a repair under warranty.

Ya especially with autumn coming around the corner.. freaking leaves everywhere. Maybe if enough leaves get stuck the air cond note will let me feel as though i'm driving an m3

Trust me you won't.

Last weekend (35C or so) we were going to furniture shops and every time we got back in the car we had to hit "max" on the aircon - the thing was absolutely howling. No conversation, music or phone call possible.

I do think it could be the leaves since the noise is a flapping sound.

thanks for the offer, but I know what it should sound like since my car's AC was working properly at the beginning.

That's because it's not a safety or drivability issue, so they put you at the back of the queue, like selective hospital surgery. However, over a month's wait is not terribly good service. Then you may have to wait for parts if there's a blower problem.

By the end of April we should expect Melbourne's weather to have fallen below high speed bower air conditioner use. Till then is another matter.

Did you ask them to call you if they have a cancellation or spot available beforehand?

I have been getting what I can only refer to as a howl or whine....It's not a creak or rattle. Sounds like the noise you'd get if you left a window cracked open on a windy night...but it's constant and turns off when I stop the fan. Sounds more like the motor than the actual fan....annoying as hell.

Ha I was just about to search for this issue. I've noticed mine making a strange noise. It sounds similar to cardboard flicking the spokes of a bike wheel, as a bad example.

I've played around with it and so far it only seems to occur when I've been in Eco Pro mode.

Car is going in for a few minor issues in January, I'll get them to look into it anyway.

I have the same noise on mine and ONLY in Eco Pro mode. When I switch it to COMFORT or SPORT mode, the strange sound is gone. It doesn't happen a lot and I've already took the car three times to dealer. They couldn't find anything at the time, because the sound was gone. Yesterday it was there again and today it's gone. It's really strange.

F30 A/C Noise

I had a similar noise in my 2012 328i which was not there when the car was new but got progressively worse as the car aged. It was NEVER there with the A/C off and not always there when cold but got worse after a long drive. Mentioned it many times to the dealer who couldn't fix it. They re-pitched the fan at one time which seemed to help for awhile. Bought a new 328i in March 2015 which didn't have the noise when new but now 8 months later I have a suspicion it is developing in this one. Could be my imagination though, I will have to keep listening.

Garage List
I had this AC noise problem last year in Nov/Dec and again in Jan.
It was most noticeable when you hit Max AC.

On both occasions I took the car to the dealer and leaves were removed from the fan. Having seen this thread, I asked about having netting retro-fitted to eliminate the problem, but the Service guys told me no such part was available.

Sadly, now waiting for the noise to return at this same time of year.

BTW, I park my car in a garage for most of the year because I work overseas, and when I do take it out I avoid parking under trees, but still the issue has occurred. There is an inherent design flaw in the intake for the fan. I have never had this issue with any other BMW I have owned.
