My 328i m Sport in Estoril Blue - Production completes tomorrow - How long to ship?
I've read the following sticky:
http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=680467 How-To: Follow a new BMW from Order, to Shipping and to Delivery (not sure if I can post the link) What a great summary. It however focused on east coast. My EB 328i finishes production tomorrow, any ideas how long it takes to go from finished production to the point it gets on a ship, then how long does the ship take to get to west coast ports? I'm in Oregon, so I suspect it's probably one of the 'further' away destinations to ship to. I'm thinking it will be towards the end of July when I get it. Anyone ever bug your CA to see what ship it's on? Figure out where in the world it is, etc? |

Took me 2 weeks from production end to being on the boat. I don't if that's an average time.
The BMW 1-800-831-1117 number will give you very accurate status updates up to the point the car gets shipped out to the states. (Completely ignore the website!) Once the car's status changes to 'In Transit' definitely bug your CA to find the name of the transport ship. He'll also be able to give you the estimated date it will reach port in the states. Once you have the ship, you can go to: http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/ Enter the name of your ship, and if the ship is in range of being tracked, you can watch its progress live. So you don't need to keep pinging your CA once it gets on the boat. Once it arrives at port, maybe a week before deliver. |

Time frame may also depends on where your car is built, Germany or South Africa. I hear from others and currently experiencing myself that builds from SA takes a lot longer for the car to get on a ship.
My car is a SA build with production finished April 26th and finally got on a ship this past weekend. ETA to Southern California is July 10.

One thing to keep in mind with "marinetraffic.com/ais" is that as the boat gets away from land (out from europe and to the US) the daily updates are weak.
Took about 4 days from the time (in my situation) the cargo ship left england (a stop before heading out to sea) until i started getting "pings" that the ship was approaching the US mainland (east coast). But even then, the info was "flakey" - at one point it had the ship 75 miles inland in south carolina!! If i recall correctly it takes about another 4-5 days to get from east coast to west coast ports. Believe me, the wait will be absolute agony - but the payoff of seeing the car EXACTLY as you ordered will be worth it. |

1 more thing (while I'm at it) - just because your car is done at the factory and is at the dock, it still may wait for several days (mine did) until there are enough containers on the ship to warrant the trip.
Mine was waiting on the cargo ship in dock for 3 days waiting for "everyone else to show up". |

Thanks all good info. I'm obsessing about it online so the people around me in 'real' life don't go nuts. - Not sure how I'll make it till July.... Oh well. Yes, worth the wait, and getting what I wanted.

Having recently lived through this, your best bet is to find some other distraction. Tracking the progress is arduous and painful. Just assume 2 months and then just keeping marking the days off on the calendar.

Also, stay away from the forums and the love/hate enthusiast threads. Find a good TV series you've never seen that has 9 seasons and spend the next 2 months catching up on it.

Current status is ready to be shipped. I called the number and they said my order was waiting to get on the shipping vessel.
8 Weeks would put the car in my hands around 7/20. Backtracking that back a bit, I'm HOPING that my car will be on the vessel "Tiger" that leaves Bremerhaven tomorrow. I know that it's scheduled to come into CA, so I >>>think<<< this may be the dates. BREMERHAVEN GERMANY 14/06/2013 ZEEBRUGGE BELGIUM 17/06/2013 SOUTHAMPTON UNITED KINGDOM 18/06/2013 MANZANILLO, PA PANAMA 01/07/2013 PORT HUENEME, CA U.S.A. 10/07/2013 7/10 gives it 10 days to go from CA to Oregon, get prepped and cleaned, and delivered! I guess I'll find out by Saturday if it's shipped yet. A month at sea..... |
