Last Time I Purchase a Dinan Product...

Story time!

I ordered a Dinan Sport on 6/21/2018. After receiving it and installing, I ran into a Drivetrain Malfunction issue. I worked with a certain rep and we determined that the tuner was malfunctioning. He sent me a shipping label and I sent the unit back via UPS, delivered 7/18/2018 and signed for by "NAME". Since then I've called, sent several emails, left voicemails etc. I haven't heard back from anyone regarding the replacement unit.

Calls to their HQ go unanswered or you get an option to leave a voicemail, which I have. I remember when Dinan customer service stood for something but now I have no clue what's going on over there. Only other option at this point is to contact AMEX and fight the charge. What a mess.

Wow!!!

The first time I called during normal business hours and got a voice mail, the next call would be to my credit card company and dispute the charges.

This place has had quite the bad rep lately......

Good luck

If Dinan has a twitter account, I highly recommend sending them a message. Nowadays, twitter accounts seem to be the easiest and most effective ways to get things sorted.

Good advice but I killed my Twitter and IG accounts a long time ago.

Looks like they've been short staffed this week due to an event in NJ. Hopefully I can get my replacement unit soon. We'll see what happens in the next few days.

Sweet! After three business days of them having the returned item, I would immediately slam the product and company too!

Not enough days to reply to an email and tell me they received the item and working on the return?

I don't disagree with that. I've experienced my fair share of BS with products and companies. I'd want an update in that situation too. I, however, wouldn't create a thread declaring that I'd never buy X product again because of X reason.

Forums are changing to support groups and I'm not sure I'm ready for that.

Forums are also there for consumers to help each other. I have no issue sharing my experience with others if it helps to avoid this happening to someone else.

It’s worthwhile for OP to share his story. Now we know that calls and emails to Dinan can go without response for several days. Apparently they consider that acceptable; customers can decide if they agree or not. Personally I consider it unprofessional for anything short of natural disaster like a hurricane flooding their office. Everybody’s expectations are different though.

Dinan got back to me this morning and apologized for the delay in response. They sent out a replacement tune via 1 day shipping. I'm OK with that. I'll let you guys know when I receive the unit.

Word has it that Dinan customer service has gone downhill since Steve Dinan left, but he's now started another company called Carbahn Autoworks. They sell Dinan products, and I suspect if you'd purchased your Dinan Sport tuner through them, you'd likely have this all resolved by now.

Just curious - how did Dinan make the determination that the unit was malfunctioning? Were you able to check the codes, and if so, what code(s) were thrown? I know that you have to make sure the car's electrical system is "asleep" before disconnecting the TMAP sensor, which also requires that the key be kept out of "convenience" range.

Admittedly when I installed the tune I failed to make sure the car was "asleep". When I started the car up for the first time I received a Drivetrain Malfunction. I don't remember what code was thrown but it had to do with an inconsistent boost level. I reached out to Dinan and they walked me through reseating the unit. After that, no issues for a few days.

On the 4th or 5th day while driving to work I received another Drivetrain Malfunction, this time it was the MAF sensor gone bad. Afterwards I couldn't connect to the tune via BT, it was unresponsive. Contacted Dinan and they determined the unit needed to be replaced.

OK, good info - thanks for that. I'm sure you're aware that Burger has a similar unit (without the BT feature) for $100 less. I bought mine used from another poster on this forum and it's been working fine for several months now. If you don't already have a metal charge pipe, you might want to consider doing that mod next - my stock plastic unit recently failed at the throttle body connection, as have many others even with completely stock boost.

Good move! I did my own install (CP only) and it is definitely a 2-man job. Need someone to work with each end of the CP to get it all positioned properly, especially the silicone connector between the lower and upper halves. The clamps are a bear to get right so you can get a wrench on the bolts to tighten them. Also, make sure the meth bung plug on the CP is fully tightened - mine was not, and thanks to another poster on this forum, I resolved that issue.
