low tire pressure issue? help

Hey guys this is my first bmw so just checking before I do something. It recently got pretty cold outside for the past few days (10 degree f) and my bmw is unfortunately has to stay outside and it my tires are now low.

Can I pump them up myself or should I bring it to my dealership? If I pump myself where do I check its good enough or not yet? Thanks

Get a tire pressure gauge. You can get it from any auto parts store or search online. Make sure you check the pressure after letting the car sit at least 4 hours and no driven more than 1 mile or your readings won't be accurate. Most gas stations have an air compressor for tires. I check mine after sitting overnight and have a portable pump.

I have one upped you, right at the point where I crossed the 1200 mile mark, I got a side wall blowout of one if my tires. Thank god for rft as I was able to drive it to the dealership

She is good now but have to wait another 300 miles before the tire is broken in

I've noticed since the temps have dropped here in NYC, the low tire warning comes on every morning when I start the car but aftera few minutes of driving the tires warm up. I then just reset the TPM and all is fine until the car sits parked again for a while.

Happens every year, follow the advice from the other post and do it your self, or have the dealer air-it-up. I prefer the latter because it allows me the opportunity to check-out his inventory. With that being said, that should do it for the year, unless there's another severe temperature drop. OBTW the owners manual recommends, don't drive the car it if the light appears then goes out, not only does it effect the performance of the car but could damage the tires.
Highest Regards

This happened with the wife's X5 when we were up in VT for turkey day visiting family. First time the car had seen below 0 F without being garaged over night. No dealer for who knows how many miles. So, I went to a local station, filled it myself and checked all the tires, then I reset the TPM in the computer. No problems since.

Guys, air expands and contracts with changes in temperature. Physics 101. As a result the pressure of the air "trapped" in your tires will change. It's a given that when it's colder the pressures will drop. A KEY thing to remember, the COLD tire pressure is the pressure you're concerned about. If your TPMS is going off when it's cold, then you need to air up. The fact that it goes off after driving a bit (and warming the tires) is a false indicator that all is well. Resetting the TPMS in this manner isn't particularly wise. It's kind of akin to taking the batteries out of your smoke detector because it's "only a small fire".

I have nitrogen in my tires and have not had the tpms issue. This may be another solution
