I recall hearing that James and Richard spent time in the M5/V10 prior to Jeremy's review video and changed every setting they possibly could to make it annoy him - succeeded beyond their dreams.
Regarding the 435 Review - I have to agree 100% with the joy that the sport button brings. I did a test drive of an Audi S5 with 6MT and followed it 30 minutes later with a drive of a 335 with MT. I don't need sport/comfort/eco modes - just make it sport and who cares about the rest. I really really like the look of the S5 (more than the 435), it is a nice car but the engine response seems like a 335 in comfort setting. Maybe it is because of the altitude in Denver, maybe it is because of the difference between supercharged and turbocharged, I liked driving the 335 more than the S5 and the 435 looks almost as good. My first 4 wheeled BMW....435i is now on order side note: my new car will have to share garage space with my two other BMWs, yet I'm not a loyal customer because they only have two wheels - WTH |

I'll start right off admitting I'm biased and spoiled when it comes to BMWs. Why? Because my current car is an F10 M5 with all the options including full leather and B&O. This means whenever I get into another 3/4/5 series it's a tall order to inspire me.
That said, the company I work for provides a set sum to purchase a car as long as it is not a V8. I have to cover any amount over the set allotment. They also pay for gas, insurance, maintenance, even car washes. Thus I'm considering the 3/4/535 as a daily driver. I've driven the 328/335, 528/535 and now the 428. I'll drive the 435 as soon as my dealer gets one. I agree with Clarkson on the styling of the 4 series. The 428 I drove was the M-Sport version. It looks good but stock it isn't going to generate double takes. I'm very ok with that. My issue is the overall package. I like the 2.0L turbo / 8 speed auto combination BMW uses in the 3/4/528. It's great for zipping around town and sipping gas on the highway. But so far, if I were forced to get the 2.0L, I'd get it in the 328. I like the handling and "sporty" feel of the 328 and let's face it, no one is going to accuse you of pretending to be the autobahn meister. The 428 just doesn't feel right with the 2.0L. I'd have to get the 3.0L turbo. Same with the 528. The 428 just needs more power to match its looks and stance and the 528 because of the weight. Truth is I'd get the 335 over the 328 as well. I'm addicted to torque. Like I said, I'm biased and spoiled. Of course I could wait for the M3/4 as they will qualify as company cars however I'll have to come out of pocket a lot more to cover what the company doesn't. |

Simply put old BMWs were built that way because that was the only way to achieve the performance numbers they gained at the time. |

I'd disagree. The 911 of course out-performs cars like the 435 and the S5 but I think it's just as much a grand tourer as the other two. Grand tourer means a sporty but also luxurious automobile that is designed to cover long distances at high speeds. That's a classic definition of a 911. Especially these days in the post-air-cooled era, the pure "sports car" at Porsche is the Cayman.

as per the latest update, yes
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/bmw/4-s...d-release-date The new BMW M3 Saloon and M4 Coupe have been fully revealed, ahead of a public debut at the Detroit Motor show in January. Read on for all the latest details on both cars, including the UK price, specs and release date. The engine used in both cars is the same: a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight six engine, which replaces the 4.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 in the previous M3 saloon and coupe. While that old engine produced 414bhp, this new one makes 425bhp - and thanks to a weight reduction of 80kg, the 0-62mph time for both models is down from 4.6 seconds to 4.1 seconds with the dual-clutch Read more: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/bmw/4-s...#ixzz2nSmovIj1

LOL!!! BMW don't build V6 engines. It's a straight 6 with two mono scroll turbos.

Interesting to read how the different marques are viewed overseas. Here in the UK current wisdom is. -
Jaguar - still a whiff of pipe and slippers about them. Lexus - a Toyota in a pretty frock that doesn't drive great and has little image. Audi - driven by Cocks who don't care that Audis don't drive great. Mercedes - I'm not yet retired. Which leaves BMW as the only choice. |
