Quote for Msport+ Pack Front discs and Pads

Car was in for a 'collapsed' air filter today. Warranty job.

Dealer quoted for front discs and pads as they are due in 3000 miles.

Sitting down?

£788.

Anyone else had to get front new discs and pads yet. If so how much?

Guessing there's 2 hours of labour in that quote? That's about £280? Ask for parts only. Disks can't be more than these...http://www.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/topics/ow...IwVG91cmluZyJ9

Good call!

Are they quoting 45mins for both discs?

OP, At the very least printout this link and put it under their noses.

Holy Crap that's a lot. Hopefully should be able to negotiate it down a bit.

Crikey! How old is your car/how many miles has it done?

Makes the service inclusive plus extra thingy not too bad in price, as they cover these (and rears)!

They are drilled and grooved. The Msport Plus discs are just big.

Quote breaks down as follows

Parts £585
Labour £71
Vat £131

Surely I'm not the first on here to need new front discs and pads on the Msport + pack brakes?

Okay I thought that was for all 4 discs, ask what parts they're changing, the discs are about £375 and the pads are about £150 from what I've seen, so are they changing springs as well and maybe the brake fluid?

I did mine a few months back but bought the parts at cost price through my dad, who worked for a dealer. I then got them fitted by an independent BMW specialist. Can't remember how much but saved a packet over what you've been quoted.

New brake disks and pads at less than 35000 miles? That sounds way too early to me. Not sure what others think.

I only needed front pads but just did them all round so that I could get my grooved and dimpled discs on.

Depends how hard the cars been driven and the type of driving.

Your quote sounded high until I looked at what my car (535i) would cost with genuine parts. My parts alone came in (BMW prices) at about £650 including VAT. I can see how Msport+ brakes would be even higher.

BTW, replacement does appear at low mileage, I bet your tyre and fuel bill is high as well.

Problem is they only need to wear about 0.5mm and it's below min thickness, so they don't need a lot of wear, you could ask a few other dealers spares departments to see what they quote you on the disc, but I'm guessing that’s about what BMW charge, sometimes they will give the customer a discount in the part department

They're actually allowed to wear 1.6mm before they're supposed to be replaced. The M Sport discs start at 30mm so are good until 28.4mm.

I changed my pads on Tuesday and my discs were down to just over 29mm so exactly enough left for another set of pads worth of wear!
