Can we summarize what we actually know about the F30/F32 2013 3 Series?

After perhaps thousands of posts, combining "expert" info and plenty of conjecture, I'm not really sure when this beast is coming out or what it will be when it does.

Where do we stand?

Thanks guys!

Unfortunatly, not too much is known about the car beyond the fact that the basic shape will be along the lines of the E90 (with details dovetailing with the new BMW styling ie. F10 and F12), a GT may be introduced into the 3-Series family and expect some downmarket/efficiency features such as 3-cylinder and 4-cylinder engines.

Heres the best full list of articles relating to what we know about the F30 so far: http://www.bimmerpost.com/3-series/f30/

Car will go into production in August of this year. 328 will be 4cyl turbo 260hp and 8-speed Automatic. 40MPG highway. This all came from 2011 Forecast meeting with our BMW Rep yesterday.

Also, 3 Cyl will not be coming to the North American Market. Diesel's will come about a year after F30 launch.

All US Spec cars will also have Start Stop

What? Very impressive. That's, what, almost a 35hp increase?

Yes, very sure. It was on our slide show with our BMW rep. We were all shocked as well to see the car some so soon. Just thought I'd share what I know as this is coming from BMW directly.

Will there be any other models besides the 328i and the 335i? Will the 335i still have the N55 engine?

No other models were discussed in the meeting. I see him on a weekly basis and will ask when I see him next. It was brought up because of such a new engine for us in the US. Diesel will come after gas versions are launched and most likely get a hybrid version in the 3 as well. Time frame was not discussed about Hybrid version, probably be much later down the road. He is an awesome guy who was in US product planning for F models for a few years before he came over to the retail side.

Will the rest of the line up ending with the 28i designation, such as the E92/E93 328i, F10 528i, X3 2.8i get a 4 cylinder turbo which will replace the NA inline 6 cylinder engine this summer?

Not only have we not hit the 7 year cycle for the E90 yet, we have seen no concept of the F30, no almost finished prototype spy shotted nothing... and you think full production will be in 6 months?

I agree. BMW can still abuse some sales on the "old" models. It still looks modern enough and is equipped to match. The market may be moving towards more and more luxury but there will always be drivers out there.

We did not discuss anything else but what I have mentioned. I am not one to speak out of assumption. Only sharing with what I know from BMW has told us. I am happy to share what I know from credible sources when I get it.

Well this has already been proven incorrect as BMW has announced plans to reveal the F30 in November 2011. I highly doubt they would begin production 3 months prior to the unveil.

Even that doesn't make sense. If they unveil in October/November, they're not going to wait nearly an entire year to begin production...I have a feeling the timeline will be very similar to what we saw with the X3...unveiled in fall and first production runs at the beginning of the year

Agreed with this, with first cars getting to dealers by late February or early March.

260HP and 40MPG would be class-leading. That also makes me wonder if there will be a manual available or if it's auto only. Hopefully they regain their senses and ditch the goofy hood cutline behind the kidneys idea. That looks terrible.

Bumping this because I have to. I guess I'm a hardcore elitist by saying that I will never give up my inline 6 for a 4 banger.

Having said that, I would like to comment on something.

The possibility of BMW releasing a 3 series without a manual gearbox is downright ridiculous. If that happens they can bet on more people like me that will continue to drive the older models and refuse to give in to the idea that an automatic is "Joy".

The fact that there hasn't been a single shred of hard evidence as to what this car will look like (apart from renderings) is insane. If they truly are planning an unveiling late this year then its obvious that they have either completed or damn near finished the final design. Someone somewhere needs to get eyes on it.

You're kidding, right?

We've seen mostly-complete test mules for over a year now.

Yeah, test mules, missing a lot of styling cues that make up the better part of the car. IE: Headlights, Tails, Grills, ETC.

Why would you expect those subtle design cues to be out "in public" a full 10 months prior to the global premier? We know from the introduction of previous models that subtle changes to lights, wheels, exhaust stay in flux almost right up until public debut. And we know that lighting, interior, etc. will take strong cues from the F25, F10 and F01. The car won't even go into full production for at least one year from now. There's now way we could expect to see a "finished" version at this point. Not knowing a "single shred" of details about the car is quite the hyperbole.

Besides, we already got a good rendering that was confirmed as very accurate by BMW:
