Has anybody taken out BMW Alloy Wheel or BMW Tyre Insurance on their F30?

I think I read somewhere that the 403 M's may not be covered as they are diamond cut? I can't find that thread anywhere though.

I'd be interested in finding out how much these policies from BMW are - and if anybody has got policies from elsewhere?

I like you thought about it. I've got the 403 M's and was offered it by my Dealer, I'd be shocked to find out I was offered it but it was invalid. you can get diamond cut alloys fixed, they might not be 100% right but IMO I couldnt find the previous scuff!!

I was offered it £229 for 3 years for the Alloy cover, think the Tyre one was £150 over a simialr period, declined and have no cover at the moment.

Took out the tyre insurance with BMW as they matched the cheapest quote I got off the web. In 9 months I've had 2 punctures so it's paid for itself already

Cheers Andys83 appreciate that. Yep I think I was getting confused - there are 3rd party insurers who don't cover diamond / laser cut alloys, found that when I searched online yesterday.

RobUK yeh thats a result if it's paid for itself already - punctures on runflats can't be cheap!

Dealer offered me £600 for 3 years tyre cover. Ended up going with car2cover for 4 years RFT tyre cover for £319

• no excess to pay

• upto £300 per tyre

• 5 tyres over the policy life

• incs euro cover and winter tyres

Had 5 punctures (all on the 255 18" rears ) on my E91 cost me a frigging fortune to replace.

Be careful as I believe the current BMW tyre insurance only pays out 50% of the replacement cost if the tyre is 50% worn. It wasn't cost effective in my opinion especially at full price.

The Car2Cover insurance has no min depth. It will payout regardless of depth.

car2cover seems really reasonable - about 199 for a 2 year cover (covers the lease) - a single puncture will pretty much make up for that...

Anyone had any experience with them?

Just spoke with a guy at Car2cover. I value first impressions- he was very helpful and came across as being very professional and knowledgable and certainly NOT just pushing his products.

I used Car2Cover for my e90 and used them again for my f30 328i M Sport. They did really well in a Which survey and prices seem good. Bmw couldn't match them when I got mine on 1st March. I got tyre and GAP insurance.

Time to be shocked:

I have spoken to SOOO many BMW dealerships and other companies about alloy wheel insurance.

A few of them have offered it for an extortionate amount.

Basically, car2cover is offering a competitive RFT quote and doesn't seem to take tread depth into consideration vs BMW - so i've decided i'll probably go for 4 years cover with them.

Car2cover don't currently offer alloy wheel insurance, but are looking at doing so soon as part of another insurance product.

I spoke to BMW Protect - They revealed that NO BMW DEALER in the UK covers DIAMOND CUT / LASER CUT wheels (i.e. the 403M's).

I confirmed with the dealer I spoke to who originally offered it and they admitted the 403's aren't covered...

ALA doesn't cover diamond cut wheel cover, in fact no other insurance company does. RAC say on their website that they offer cover and that for diamond cut wheels, they need to be sent off for 10 days - but this pdf online is outdated and this may have changed.

I'm now left with the 19" 403 M wheels that can't be covered. I don't usually have problems with alloy wheels, but there will be other people insured on the car and this is where the risk comes from...

For anyone who is interested - got tyre insurance from car2cover - 4 years RFT cover for less than £320 which I thought was good. They are selling it separately at the moment but as of 1st April 2013 it will have to be bought in conjunction with GAP insurance (similar to ALA).

As for diamond cut alloy wheel insurance, still no joy but spoke to Keith at mintalloys.co.uk who said that it costs around £105 per wheel to fix which could be worse - so I think i'll have to risk having no alloy insurance and keep Keith's number in my phone!

Collecting the car on Thursday so will hopefully update then.

car2cover only cover up to 5 tyres regardless of how long the cover is for. So 2 years = 5 tyres, 4 years = 5 tyres. I guess one shouldn't be losing 5 tyres in 4 years, but it could get close and would be annoying to have to dish out another premium if you hit 5 by the time you're in year 3 as an example...
