Start car, put in sport + let it open, you will hear it. Turn off car and quickly run back and unplug the harness from the motor on pipe and then viola! Exhaust valve open. Apparently either previous owner or muffler shop disabled mine which is cool.

Does it matter if the engine is on or off to unplug it? Why not just to leave it on that way not need to run and you actually can see/feel/hear if the valve is open.

I have the new 340i and have removed the plug into the exhaust flap, the default state is open, so with no plug it simply stays open.
Give a very slight note, And definately feels like the car drives better being more responsive. I wondered if others have done and noticed this too. |

Does anyone know what the position of the flap should be (open or closed) when the engine is not running?

Hi,
Is this only relevant to petrol engines? I have a 335d and would love it to sound better!!! Already coded ASD to M3 internally which works quite well. But I'm after real sounds now.... Cheers

I can verify it was very easy to do on my 2016 435i GC MPE. You don't need to turn the car on at all unless you are going the route of unplugging the electronics while the car has opened the flap by itself. I didn't even need to jack up the car and I'm not exactly small. I used a flathead to get the clip off. I just need some wire to keep it open.
