Unplug Exhaust Flap Connector. I've done this on my 340i, definitely sounds much better. More pops/farts.

Start car, put in sport + let it open, you will hear it. Turn off car and quickly run back and unplug the harness from the motor on pipe and then viola! Exhaust valve open. Apparently either previous owner or muffler shop disabled mine which is cool.

it will also close to prevent a little bit of drone while cruising in any mode.

Does it matter if the engine is on or off to unplug it? Why not just to leave it on that way not need to run and you actually can see/feel/hear if the valve is open.

You don't need to turn it off. Just once it on just walk back there and unplug it so that the valve stays open. Tbh mine is always open. I can make a video of my MPE with res delete on a cold start and it's really not that loud. It calms down after about 3-5 seconds.

I got mine unplug yesterday and there is indeed some drone around 1500 -2000 rpm, don't care about it if it really make more exhaust note than close. Putting DP + jb4/Bluetooth later. I heard can be close/open from there.

I have the MPE and Res delete on my Car and you are right right around those RPM's there is a drone. For me it's not a problem since I have a 6MT car and my RPM's are always higher up cruising......that and I also drive everywhere fast haha

As far as open or close yes. You can actually control the valve from the car however I honestly leave it open. However, with the Bluetooth I am sure you are aware of the $27.00 app for the Bluetooth that you must buy. I usually just use the indicator stalk to mess with the exhaust note.

MMM, Didn't know about the app, BMS is charging like $130 for the Bluetooth option and the app should be included on the price.

What is the indicator stalk?

I know. The problem is that the app is not made by BMS and rather by a third party.

So, the jb4/Bluetooth needs this app in order to work right?

no you dont need the jb4 bluetooth for it to work just by the jb4 itself with updated firmware

I have the new 340i and have removed the plug into the exhaust flap, the default state is open, so with no plug it simply stays open.
Give a very slight note,
And definately feels like the car drives better being more responsive.

I wondered if others have done and noticed this too.

I will get the jb4 with the Bluetooth option for better interaction mode than the usb cable and computer.

I have it unplug also like most of us here.

Does anyone know what the position of the flap should be (open or closed) when the engine is not running?

There's no downside to this electonically correct (no CELs, stored codes, etc)?

Hi,

Is this only relevant to petrol engines? I have a 335d and would love it to sound better!!!

Already coded ASD to M3 internally which works quite well. But I'm after real sounds now....

Cheers

I can verify it was very easy to do on my 2016 435i GC MPE. You don't need to turn the car on at all unless you are going the route of unplugging the electronics while the car has opened the flap by itself. I didn't even need to jack up the car and I'm not exactly small. I used a flathead to get the clip off. I just need some wire to keep it open.
