Sirius XM Canada Activation Fee???

My 3 month trial for Sirius XM expired and I was going to renew the subscription only to find out that they wanted to charge me a $30 Activation fee as well as two $12 Canadian Music Royalty fees.

What's with that? It came up to over $100 just to renew my subscription for 3 months.

I then went onto the US website and made an account there, I entered my ESN number on my NBT and I was able to get 1 year for $120 on the Sirius XM Mostly music plan and I got a 2 month free trial and no activation fee. When I sent the activation signal to my car, it picked it up and I can get a lot of the US news channels as well as the Canadian ones.

If you guys are looking to extend your Satellite radio subscriptions, sign up on the US website. It's a lot cheaper and you don't have to deal with all these ridiculous fees that are there just to gouge us.

I was told to always call or ask for the 'subscription retention team.' This puts you in touch with some fine folks from the east coast who have room to negotiate the price. I have done this twice and got amazing deals on Sirius XM.

This, or wait for the callback from the retention team.
Usually, you should pay 1/2 of the retail price, and no activation fee.

Still have 8 months left on the free year trial.

Ah well, I'm happy with my 2 months free and 1 year on the $120 on Sirius XM Mostly Music for $9.99 a month with no activation fee.

The lowest package you can get here in Canada is the $14.99 select package.

You can get it a lot lower than $14.99 a month. I renewed my last car for 3 years at $8 a month. I had 18 months left they transferred it to my new BMW and the free year trial was added as well. I was quite surprised they did that. I figured I'd lose the free year trial.
