Here in Australia you take the car in, they change the oil and filter and hand you an invoice for $1080. Our dollar is just over parity with USD for anyone wanting to convert it.

My car currently has over 12000 KM, and the computer is indicating the first service will be in 20000 KM, or 04/2014 whichever is first.

So the car will have 32000 KM or almost 2 years old before it gets its first service.
That is roughly the same as 20000 Miles.

I found that out as well. I hit 160 on the autobahn last week on my drive to the Nürburgring. Kept waiting for the limiter to kick in at 155 and it never did.

I wonder what happens above 160? needle stops at 160, will it break like older cars used to??

My car mileage is around 10,100 miles. It told me today that I do not need to go in for another 6000 miles.

I think that's weird though because I definitely used to drive it pretty hard.

I also had to put in (1) Quart of oil 2 separate times.

One time I was on my way to Vegas and it came on when I was in Victorville, luckily found a autozone and grabbed 2 quarts. I put one in and had the other one in my car.

It asked again maybe 4 months later recently; same thing, added in 1 quart and now it seems fine.

Should I take it in or tell them about having to add oil?

And possibly a door ding or two and maybe a couple bits they forget to put back correctly when they are working on it. Oh, there's always the possibility of an improperly installed oil pan crush washer and oil dripping on your driveway.

Other than that, should be uneventful.

BTW, to clarify, the ASS coding was something they added through a software update. If your car is eligible for the update you can get it for free and they'll do coding for free. Also, if your car already has latest software but you want coding done (and didn't know about it) talk with SA or service manager and they will typically do for you.

I am @ 14,880, almost 15K and it still isn't close to a oil change..Why do you think yours is asking early? Is it bc it is a manual? Or do you drive it hard?

No I took it in and it turns out to be some software glitch with the rear brake pads. they updated the software and my next scheduled is at 15,000 miles.

I took mine in for an early oil change (4000 miles).

I used that opportunity to complain about the auto-start-stop being rough and they updated the software in the car (after which I had to re-code my enhancements). That update was not the "default to last" mode retrofit, it was updated software.

I don't know if they routinely check cars for software updates and just update them, or if they only do updates if you complain about something.

If you ask, they should so the ASS default retrofit for you. The cost is covered by BMW.
My auto-start-stop is also rough, it tends to jerk forward a little bit, did it alleviate that when they updated it for you? Thanks

Yes, it's a bit smoother and no more stalls, but still annoying to me.

Stops and restarts are smooth about 60% of the time, but when it's not smooth, man, it shakes the whole car like it's a school bus starting on a cold morning!

I mentioned the rough start again after the update to the mechanic and he went on a drive with me. He agreed that the restart still shakes the car pretty severely (especially with a restart due to the A/C demand), but that it's "normal" (jeez, I hate that word) and that there's nothing more he can do about it.

I just coded ASS off and leave it off all the time now.

I really do like the idea of ASS, I just can't see such that the major shaking as being ok for the engine/trans/starter as far an long term longevity goes.

I guess I wouldn't be so concerned if I was only leasing the car for 2-4 years, but I keep my cars a long time and plan on keeping my F30 a long time too.

Sadly I do not buy into the whole syn. oils last longer and therefore you can go 12k to 15k in between oil changes. I call bullshit on that. I do agree that syn. oil is better and holds up longer then dino oil but we all know full well this is about money. If BMW with there 4 year 50k coverage on all service were to knock the miles on oil changes down to a reasonable 6k or even 8k, it would cost them a small fortune. This is about money plain and simple. I just had my E90 in for a fault code and said to them I am due for an oil change and my wiper blades are shot. They called back and said code is corrected. Your not due for an oil change for another month which would be a year and same for the wiper blades. I said check the wiper blades yourself they are shot streaking all over. He said, I know I checked and they are bad but you're not due. once again, MONEY.

After writing this yesterday and remembering that they updated my cars software again when I had the 15K oil change last week, I tried enabling ASS again to see if the behavior changed. I normally just leave it off.

Anyway, the stop/start roughness/shaking/jerking is 90% gone! I'm just amazed BMW was able to smooth it out this much just via a software update.

Running errands today with ASS on and at least 20 stop/start cycles, they were hardly noticeable and 2 or 3 of them I didn't feel at all (and I have a very sensitive ASS).

Restarts were very smooth, quick, and quiet. For me, I think I may be able to live with leaving ASS on most of the time now.

So, the next time you take your car in and they update your software, give ASS another try!
