idrive touch implemented, no feedback?

So the idrive touch was implemented a few months ago but i couldn't find any info on how well it is working or when bmw will expand the tech to the other lines. I looked on 7post.com but found nothing really relevant. SO i decided to post this here because f30post seems to be the ones most interested in the new nav and the new idrive controller. Anyone know anything on this, insiders, press releases I didn't catch?

Here is a screenshot of bmw china's page translated:

new Nav Pro being rolled into 3 series does not include Touch controller. This comes later, if ever, in its current form. 2013 5 and 7 series in US market do not have Touch controller.

I suppose BMW is testing it in China market. My guess is they partnered with a Chinese engineering firm who may be behind the touch controller. Otherwise why in the world would they start with one of the most complicated languages with such a large character set for their initial test? One can assume (I know, I know) that the programmers writing the code are Chinese.

The touch controller looks really ugly & bulky at first glance.

I would think they try it in Chinese first because it IS the most complicated and as such would be the best test to see if it works in the real world. the press release said after Chinese the latin alphabet would be easy. I wonder if the 2 or 4 series will get it or if they will keep it for the 5,6,7 series until the next iteration in the late 2016-2020...

In fact, from what I red in a french magazine specialised in BMW, they developped this "touch" idrive especially for the chinese/ asian market : the language is so complicated that you cannot easily type word with an "alphabet" as it like drawing.
They will implement it in occidental countries in the future ( late 2013 if the magazine is right).

Yes & no. For Mainland China it's only an added convenience cos the pronounciations have official translation using latin alphabets, & u have to learn it at school. For Japan & Korea that's not a problem cos the Hangul & Kana system are all standardised & for years their domestic systems doesn't use handwriting recognition.
The other Asian markets are not big enough to warrant such a product development.
The reason why BMW did this is cos Audi had it on their MMI since 2010.

I saw that press release & the photos as well. The idrive controller looks really ugly with the touchpad on top of the wheel, & the wheel is bigger as well.

Is the 3 series console large enough to accomodate this touch controller?
