Then than means that the 6 Series GC is the 4 door version of the 2 door version of the 4 door 5 Series...

Is this confusing anyone else?
Nope not at all.

And, to be honest, since most of the people on these forums are (or at least claim to be) enthusiasts, then not only will we not be confused by it, but we'll memorise all the F numbers, understand all the engine options, start threads about the colours, and we'll be able to pick the sport's from the M-sports, from the Luxurys from the Moderns from the Urbans and the SE's and the ES's.

Am I enthusiastic about BMW? Yes.
Do I think their vision, planning, products and philosophy are above scrutiny and question? No, I do not.

you guys complain too much. buy the car that fits your lifestyle and dont worry about the rest. I say BMW keep design and manufacture new cars until they get the front end/hood cut line right.

I would prefer that they put their efforts into making their line up "the ultimate driving experience" rather than producing so many variations on a theme. You want a 4 door? Get a 3 series. You want a coupe? Get a 4 series. Seemed so simple to me.

Crazy.

Any why is the 4 door the 3 and the 3 door the 4?

Well, if it is a 3er GC, I just hope it has as much room in the rear as the outgoing E92. I drover the the 6GC and for all the room it doesn't have it the back seats, one might as well buy the real two door instead of a 4 door that's not content with being a 4 door.

I had completely forgotten about that. I can kind of see where you are coming from, but I think they are different concepts all together. That still raises the question of what is it. Maybe if we spam Scott26 he/she/it/whatever will cave in and tell us.

Hahaha, I agree - part of the reason I have always liked BMW over other brands was the simplicity of their product offerings. I do understand the business needs to keep up with the Joneses, but I dislike it. But what can you do? My bigger beef is the price differential between the 5 and 6 series. I hope the gap is smaller for the 3 and the 4.

I wonder what's next, a 3 and 5 series "petite sedan" that is really a coupe?

That's the case actually.

Notice how BMW's share a lot of components throughout the lineup. Gearbox, chassis, engines, interior parts etc. etc.

The only thing changing is the shape and size, and that allows companies to segmentate even further without increasing the production costs.

New models means new customers from different segments. You can even reach to the smallest niches with this business strategy.

It's the new trend in automobile market... VW group started it... And BMW has to follow in order to stay in the game.

The French auto magazine l'Argus strip away the camouflage for a very realistic view of the BMW 4er Gran Coupe.

The stylish four door is effectively a four door variant of the Coupe but with a slightly extended wheelbase and elongated roof structure which increases the height from the standard Coupe in order to accomodate reasonable headroom.
Here you can see exactly what is hiding behind the camouflaged rear panels that cover the aperature of the rear door. And in true classic BMW four door sense the hofmeister is part of the door.

Taking its cue from the BMW 6er Gran Coupe. The 4er Gran Coupe aims to bring dynamic styling , Sports-proficient handling, performance and high standard of luxury and individuality to the entry segment.

The 6er and the 4er Gran Coupe models could possibly be joined by a 2er Gran Coupe currently undergoing marketing assessement and evaluation.
Extending the look of the forthcoming 2er Coupe, again with a more sleeker rounded roofline and short ovehangs at the front and rear.

Wow, I really like that. My brain couldn't really make a good visual, from the mules we've seen. Now I really that.

Starting to wonder just how sweet an M4 Gran Coupe would look!

I love the Zagato-ish rear.

I'd be interested in a 2er Gran Coupe rather than a 1er Sedan just as I would prefer a 4er GC vs a 3er Sedan. I like the lines of the coupe with the convenience of 4 doors.
