hmm this is interesting. I could swear that couple years back I read a article that bush passed a new law that from 2012 no V8s will be offered as a standard model for private vehicles. By private I mean not for business, just everyday transportation. I am sure most people in NA will still go with 6 cyl engine but 4 cyl turboed engines now days are also pretty well made.

I was told that there are 240hp/245 lb torque daily driven Audi 2.0turbos (Stassis seems popular). Given the weight advantage (power/weight... this doesn't seem bad).

WOH! Hold on there cowboy. Thought this thread was about BMW using more fuel efficient (probably cost effective) and environmental friendly entry level engine alternatives.

IMHO, bio-diesel because we have way too much grease trucks, fryers, liposuction leftovers, and that grease grime build ups from kitchens that probably lower viscosity like hell.

If you could build the bottom end properly maybe.. people may hate to their this car's name, but the Neon SRT-4 had a very solid bottom end (2.4L 4cyl turbo) w/a single turbo that had nice HP and TQ. If they could take a similar design and define it nicely.. maybe..

Just needs a nice high, smooth torque & HP curve.

Before SAAB pulled out of the North American market, they were getting 280hp out of I4 engines. I can only imagine what BMW could pull off with its more advanced transmissions, and recent turbo charging technology. I hope we aren't heading into a power plunge similar to that of the 1980s.

It's inevitable! The technology exists to throw much more power in these vehicles then they are producing but they need to keep the market under control.

NA inline 6 will still be the most popular engine in US - 328 or 325. But expect US to get something like the 323 that is sold in Canada.

What I want to know is what will be the deadline to order an e90 M3? I want one of those fire-breathing V8s. And maybe a 330d for a daily driver/family car.

We are living at the peak of the HP wars, enjoy it while it lasts.

if u want an e90 m3... i would jump it now, i doubt there's gonna be a MY2012 e90 m3... so why wait till the last minute if u really want one??

well, its the peak of the HP war for regular/standard cars, but for M cars, it just keeps going up
i really cant wait for BMW to hit the 600hp mark!!
