I'd take a I6 over a T4 any day. If you want to tune a 4 banger buy JDM. BMW is taking a step down IMHO. You can never replace the sound and feel of a 6 cylinder with a 4 banger.

It won't be as smooth, but i doubt the driving experience will be any worse. The fact that you can spend 800 bucks and the car will have similar output to the 335 is impressive.

Ugh I love my N52, but if the new turbo 4 can achieve numbers like that this easily that is hard to turn down!!

It is only the 28i and 30i guys saying this. Fact is tune-ability of those cars blow.

This engine is probably going to be one of BMW's best decisions in a long time. It will sell them a lot of cars.

Agreed
It was ok to drive e46 with NA I6, but this pig needs more juice and preferably down low
Every time i drive 328i loaner, i'm ready to curse at that thing
It just wont move
I think it's a great engine with great range and output
My vote goes for this 4 banger for sure

I wonder how much less the 328i will weigh than the 335i? That will also make a difference. Knowing BMW, they'll give the 328i smaller brakes, tires/wheels, etc., so those may need upgrades with more power.

That's what I enjoy the most about my car - the sound and the natural feeling from the I6. Why do you think V12s are two of them stuck together???

If it takes a lot of money and trouble to tune it, why don't just buy a 335i? Will such a tuning shorten the engine's life?

This I want to know. I run JB on my e92 35 with no problems, but it's not a super-agressive tune. Under $1k for 50hp? Not too expensive. So long as the stock engine can handle it.

It will be close to a stock 335i
But a tuned one no way bigger power plant with a six. There are n54 hitting over 500 rwhp. with RB turbo upgrades.

I think that is why BMW still offers x35i engine. I6 TT. Get that instead and do a bit tuning then you'll have something in the 360 to 400 range

Let's not even compare those two engines for obvious reasons... they are on different levels; one has a cast iron block and we know can make 1300 WHP in it's full form; this won't be even close.

A turbo 4 still won't produce the satisfying down low TQ that a turbo 6 can.

This has great potential. The only problem I have with my 128i is the lack of power. No, I cannot afford a 135i, but its hard to make any extra gains. With exhaust and intake + chip, a 128i can only make about 260 hp, if that at all.

Time to start saving up my pennies : )

It could but why would you spend the money on full bolts on? The only reason to get a 28i is to save money. If you're dropping a few grand, get a 35i and spend less than $500 on a tune, which will net over 350hp.

For a tune only (which is where I'd stop because it's the most cost effective), these numbers are amazing

Agreed, the new 28i engine + tune will be incredible for the price, but anything more and you might as well have bought a 35i.
