Has anyone above 60K Changed ATF yet?

Just wondering for those with above 60k miles with Auto tranny, Have you changed out your fluid?

If so,

Did you notice improvements in shifting?
Did you notice transmission slipping?

Was going over Mikes maintenance again and he recommends it to be changed at 60k, however also states that newer ATF is lifetime, and lifetime basically means 100k.

ZF state 36K miles iirc, I'll not be going beyond that before a fluid change, regardless of what BMW say.

From the horse's mouth:

http://www.zf.com/corporate/en_de/af...ange_kits.html

"Regular maintenance intervals will increase the automatic transmission's service life. ZF recommends a regular oil change at between 80 000 and 100 000 km or after 8 years depending upon the stress."

I am not sure where the 35k miles came from, but ZF clearly states 50K to 62K miles. I am doing mine soon at 61K.

Any cost estimates?

costs..I only know the costs in canadian dollar as lucky for you I am about to do the same service and contemplating the costs and which fluid to use.

ZF lifeguard 8 - 7 litre - 280 cad

Ravenol Zf 8 hp fluid 7 litre (I heard its superior to zf lifeguard) 300 cad.Again..no one seems to have used it on our cars yet..Some guy used it in e90 and found it to br superior to zf lifeguard.

Redline D6 - 7 litre. 140 cad (Redline says this works for bmw 8 speed..but I am yet to find someone online who has used it..people have used it in the 6 speed in e90s and didnt like the shifting..they said it's not smooth when cold but it is when upto operating tenperature.Redline likes its fluid the way i like my women..thick.

Meyle transmission pan with builtin filter-200 cad shipped or 140 u.s. You would be foolish to not change this when changing the fluid.

Labour-70 to 100 bucks at a trusted mechanic. I dont like to monkey around with the transmission...

When you do a fluid change you should always do the trans filter change too. Its pretty pointless if you just change the fluid

Changed it at around 50k miles.

I did not notice improvements in shifting.
I didn't notice the transmission shifting either.

My plan is to continue to do it every 50k miles unless I track the car more often.

If you don't mind sharing, what brand fluid did you use?
I was planning on just using OEM BMW tranny fluid.

I didn't read this in his manual, can you explain why?
I'm not the most experienced in this.

I noticed that ZF quote 60K KM for the oil change on the 8P70H transmission so I sent them an email enquiring about the 8HP50 and what the interval was for that, and they stated it was the same as the 8P70H.

Last I checked, BMW didn't sell an OEM BMW transmission fluid in quart size containers.

I ended up getting it through FCP Euro...

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...-24118612901kt

It takes a long time for the transmission to cool down from 50+C to 30-40C...

ZF stated change it early if you drive under tough conditions which to me is anything not a daily cruise controlled commute..
I plan on using AMSOIL ATF signature every 30k miles got that on my maintenance calendar esp since Ill just be doing drain instead of flush. I checked awhile ago but I dont believe ZF lifeguard is even a full synthetic .. lol lifetime

I think an ATF change by a dealer is north of $250 .. esp since the parts are often quoted as that in itself (and thats a ripoff btw)

yea so hes advocating a 35,000mi drain and fill which I believe is good
I think if one goes 50,000mi+ then its better to flush and fill which is more a pain

Try 700 just for the fluid. 200 in labor.

IIRZ ZF still recommends to perform the reset after the fluid change for optimal results. You'll need to hook up to the computer. This isn't the same as the adaptation reset that people talk about.

Every 35,000 miles seems excessive.

I've attached a PDF for the procedure as well as some screen shots for the diagnostic software.
