Thanks John. Mine has done 70 miles yours 1000+ miles.

Took the car to a specialist firm who are Rolls Royce approved. They are very good friends of mine. Well, their reaction was quite novel regarding BMW QC. They could see exactly where the cost cutting had taken place and on other parts of the car. But both my problems can be fixed but at a not inconsiderable cost. Anyway, I don't see why I should foot the bill.

Oh, the Sat Nav is also cr*p.

Car is a great drive though. Small mercies.

So had the seat bases replaced today. The dealer also mentioned they had heated up the leather and treated it to stretch it better?!

Is this to get it to fit the new bases - or is it new leather as well

Congratulations.
Have you asked them if it's new leather? Does it look new? But knowing BMW, it's probably the same leather which they have re-fitted as there was nothing wrong with the leather.

It was dark, so will take a look in the morning. It certainly smelt like new car inside, but then mine still does as its only 3 months old (and the loan 330d, was a 12 plate)

They could possibly have damaged the leather during removal and had to replace it. Who can tell. It's a hell of a job doing what they had to do. Hope they have not damaged any other trim. Also, check for squeaks - but that's why they treated/re-treated the leather.

New seat bases usually come complete with the right colour matched leather
God knows what they are talking about "Heating it" sound a load of bollocks to me.
My seat bases were new ones from BMW. I saw them before being fitted leather and all.

Maybe I missed heard and it was 'treat' not 'hear' as it was on the phone

They do feel very soft like they were treated with a leather cream

Got a letter from BMWCS Manager. He feels that the baggy seat and rear bumper colour mismatch are within BMW manufacturing tolerances. It was Berry, West London who put a spanner in the works. I've told him that his response is appaling, mean, miserable, incorrect and unfair. Might as well go for it!

I have asked him whether he would accept the report/recommendation of an Independent Engineer? I will email Norbert Reithofer. Why not? Nothing to lose now.

We won't be buying any more BMWs. This is proof they are justifiably famous for their appalling customer relations.

I would be following you in this instance, I had a reply from Harkan suleyman in the form of a phone call, he fobbed me off with "our technical dept have asked for more info from listers on your sat-nav problems, it may take up to 6 months to rectify in which case we can discuss some form of compensation to keep you happy"
It sounded more like a small amount of "shut him up stuff".
My last BMW in this instance also. I am not spending £50K on these cars to have the piss taken out of me. They seem none caring to me.

They really are a bunch of ignorant piss takers. I've emailed Norbert Reithofer. I really wish I never bought this car. We will be going to VW, Audi or Mercedes Benz. I should have listened to my ex-wife. BMW can eff off as far as I am concerned.

I know they may not be any better, but these faults would not be there to complain about in the first place.
My last BMW (X3 35D M sport) did not get home before the steering completely failed nearly killing all on board.

Two cars prior to that my E90 M3's suspension failed on the first drive home also, both cars were back to dealer first day and for weeks

How would you respond to that?.
You can't say I dumped them easy, things are not improving.

Your first line made me spit my tea out.......especially as you are going Audi next

When you get your Audi, it will come with a bottle of oil in a lovely little fake leather pouch neatly velcro'd down in the boot, and you'll think 'Ah, what a nice little touch!' then 2000 miles later the reality of what that 'nice little touch' is there for, hits home.

So this BMW by comparison is a gem if only a few glitches in the Sat Nav? Sounds to me like BMW have improved greatly from your testament.

In the last 10 years I've probably had at least that many new cars and from expereince the 4 which have been BMW's have been the only cars which haven't needed to go back to the dealership in the first few months. None have been Audi's though.

Sorry, off-topic a bit but I had a '55 reg Audi A3 2.0 TDi that needed it's little bottle of oil every 5k-6k miles...

...and it had lots of unscheduled visits to the dealer. In fact when I went to pick the car up (new) it had the wrong alloys on it, the centre caps were missing and believe it or not, the centre brake light was completely missing! They fixed it but I had to wait 2 hours, then a fortnight later it fell out and the dealer said they couldn't book the car in for a week and to tape over the hole in the meantime!! How's that for Audi quality & service

Missing brake light is unbelievable, that would have passed through several stages of checking before it got to you and should have been blindingly obvious.

I'm surprised they even accepted that there was something wrong with the car.....missing parts? Pffffffft

And well done for stretching the oil out to 5-6k mine had a bigger oil habit. But seriously when I enquired, they firstly said it would improve, engine still new. Then as it got progressively worse, they whipped out an Audi tolerance book that clearly stated that only when it got to 1 litre every 1500 miles would they consider it excessive. Thankfully it was a fully expensed company car, as it required the most expensive Mobil 1 at £20+ a bottle.

Imagine my delight when Mercedes left a 1 litre Mobil 1 bottle on my seat after a service and that car never used a drop in between servicing.

That is why I will buy another Mercedes in future.....Audi?....not so much

Had a response from the fellow dealing with my case and, on cue, always at precisely at 5pm. Germany have referred the case back to the UK. So that's that. Now where is my Which? magazine log in?

My response to BMW:
There Are None So Blind
As Those Who Will Not See

I should never have taken the car to Berry, Chiswick who are really in Brentford. They are famous for shoddy service. At leat through all this I have found a really good BMW Servicing Centre: HR Owen, West Acton, London. They have been highly recommended and are even closer to me.

Ha, Ha. As a kid I lived in Barnes. I now live just up the road in Chiswick. Love it. Fabulous restaurants especially French ones.

I'll be lunching and dining in them tomorrow on my Birthday. It's a very important one.
