cars been at shop for over a day still running "diagnostic tests".

i guess i'd rather them keep diagnosing then getting car back... They know i have a video of it on my phone so i guess it's keeping them honest.

Another satisfied customer. They should just give you a couple aux cooling fans to keep in the trunk like a spare tire.

Just got a call from the dealership. They said the fan checks out and the computer has the correct code. They are replacing the thermostat as they feel the car thinks its overheating triggering the fan to go full on. This is not the same assessment other people are receiving but thought I would share. Now I have to wait for a thermostat to come in.

Thanks for sharing, that's good to know. I think you're the first person to have the dealership recommend a new thermostat (I could be wrong). Usually it's software, fans or relays.

well actually another annoyed customer.

Got my car back. Just Left the dealership. On way home, car is extremely low on power. Temp never gets warm, not limp mode, but i'd call it extreme slow turbo lag. It's just as it was before I dropped it off.

Quick history. I got full limp mode 2x within 3 days. Full on no revving past 2500. As this was happening i noticed tons of extra BOV noise when letting off gas.

It left limp mode as expected after new drive cycles, but the car was low on power, and the pssst bov noise kept happening. Sounds like a poorly tuned WRX or something, not cool like you'd expect. I could floor it and it'd take forever to move, but would eventually.

Took car in. Got car back today. Same issue on way home. Picked up the car 15 min before service shut down so couldn't return.

here's my service report:

Connected Charger 11.5v. Ran Vehicle test had fault code 1A2108. Ran test plan and fan working fine. checked wiring to and from the due to fan and all checks out fine. submitted a puma case in number and they said to replace the electric fan. replaced electric fan per puma.

PARTS
17-42-7-640-513 fan housing with fan
61-36-9-207-913 relay for fan

I have to say i'm really disappointed. being w/o my car for 2 days I really missed it and seeing it pull up was excited. but here we go again. as a business owner with a family i don't have time for this, love the car, but with only 3K miles it's officially becoming a pain.

Anyone know what 1A2108 fault code is? Anyone experience the super lack of power post new fan? I have the PPK and can't think of a reason why it's causing this to happen but that's the only other variable in my car.

i hope BMW can find a solution because if this keeps happening, my experience with the brand is pretty much a big fat meh. And I don't want to hear any "you got a bad one" or "all cars have issues". It's clear this is a problem and there's not a concrete fix yet.

Sorry to hear you're still having this problem. It seems really bad as some others have posted their experiences. I hate to say it, but you may have to lemon law it.

Yeah I'm just bummed. Not trying to be a instant angry customer and I think I've been quite patient and have tried to solve the issue rather than gripe. But it's still there and taken tons of my time...it's beginning to really affect my day to day and that's unacceptable.

Agreed which doesn't make me feel good. I can't wait to bring it in again as that will be the third and final time before I lemon the car.

I've been patient as well. My car is in the shop having relays and/or harnesses replaced, and the SA said they ordered a new DME. Well, this is the 4th time for the same issue and I've spoken to a Lemon Law attorney who agrees it's a good case. I'm getting copies of the purchase contract and services invoices over to him Monday.

The car is barely 6 months old and just over 4000 miles. Seems like I've been driving loaners and rentals more than my own.

It's really unfortunate owning a new car that's constantly in the shop. If you're in SoCal, based on my experience lemoning cars here, the arbitration board I went through, twice, with different manufacturers, lemoned the vehicles based on the number of days they were out of service, not the number of failed repairs for the same component.

In each case, the 'magic' number was 30 - and that's calendar (not business) days. Once that threshold was crossed, the buyback process was initiated without much drama.

Are you willing to get another 335i? Or has the experience soured you to the point where you'll look at another model or brand if the lemon process goes through?

is that 30 days of problems or 30 days in the shop?

For me, it was 30 cumulative days 'out of service' meaning I was in a loaner while my car was out of my possession, waiting on parts, and the like. I believe that is built-in to the CA lemon law, so other states may have different inclusionary or exclusionary clauses in addition to the 'three attempts of a failed component' rule of thumb.

Another limp

Decided to join this forum after researching these exact same symptoms I'm experiencing with my 2013 335i. First time it happened, the dealership told me it was most likely a glitch and not to worry about it. Once it happened again this past weekend, I decided to take it in to be serviced. Scheduled to drop it off tomorrow morning.

I joined this forum for the same reason. Just for this issue. I've had it happen twice on me and took it to BMW twice so I had the same routine done (change aux fan, then change aux fan again plus relay). It happened to me in back to back weeks (2 weeks out of 6 now). I've contacted BMWNA and asked about a buy back. They said they are investigating this issue and what is needed to qualify the car as a buy back candidate. They will be getting back to me by this Wednesday.

BTW. I've noticed that I'm hearing a lot more whistling and humming noises from the engine area ever since "fan" issue happened. Is anyone else experiencing this? I wonder if I should take the car in yet again for these noises...

once you hit limp mode, did you experience the lack of power? i.e., not limp mode but basically a slow ass car, where you can floor it and it just takes longer to do its thing?

That's where I'm at now. it's going back to shop tmrw. I havn'e noticed any new noises per se.

I have a service appointment scheduled for Wednesday, but I'm honestly considering just canceling since it sounds like they will either find and do nothing, or replace a fan or code upgrade. At the end of the day though, all of those things are likely to NOT fix the issue and the expense is my time and being without my car for a day or two AND what they do may even slow the car down?! No thanks. I'll just deal with it and hopefully they develop an official diagnosis & solution.

I suppose I will send a note to BMWNA so it gets more visibility.

Yes. That's exactly what happened to me. It still reved beyond 2500 RPMs (it got to over 3k) but it was just painfully slow.
