2014 328D Xdrive -- First Oil Change

Did my first out of cycle oil change on on my 328d at 5000 miles. Here's what I did. Sorry no pics.

Parts used:

BMW oil Filter with oil ring: 11 42 8 507 683 with o-ring

BMW Oil filter cap: 11 42 8 507 685 (kept as a spare because they can crack). Available at BMW $54.00 or Bavarian Auto Sport for $37.00.

Castrol Edge Professional OE 05W/30 oil: BMW: 07 51 0 037 195 (the only place I can find it)

DEF: BMW: 83 190 441 139

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remove plastic engine cover. Just lift.

Removing old oil filter: unclip two hoses above the oil filter for better access and move aside. Use plastic bag with small hole on bottom cut out. Place plastic bag hole securely over the oil filter cap and down the oil filter housing base as far as you can. Loosen cap. From inside the plastic bag with your hand on the cap pull cap and filter out quickly into plastic bag. This will prevent oil dripping from the filter onto the engine.

Drained oil: vacuum pumped out old oil. Drained and measured: 5.4-5.5 qts

Removing the used oil filter from the cap takes some effort. Pull hard.

REMOVE OLD RUBBER OIL RING from the oil filter cap and replace with a fresh one supplied in the oil filter box.

Seat oil filter first in oil filter housing aligning nipple/prong with hole in housing base. Do not push oil filter onto into the cap first because its more difficult to position nipple/pronged end into oil filter housing. After the filter is in place in the housing assembly rotate the oil filter cap onto the filter and tighten down to 18 ft pounds/25NM.

Replaced with 5.5 qts fresh oil.

Ran engine two minutes and checked for leaks. Waited 5 minutes and checked the oil with the dipstick. Yes!!! 328D's have real dipsticks.

Test drove, rechecked for leaks. Buttoned everything up.

Topped off the DEF.
