No manual makes me sad

Oh well. I guess I'll have to get my hands on an E60 535i.

At least you live somewhere that the awd isn't a total bummer too.

That's my point. X3 and F31 are a better comparison in terms of size and price. I would NEVER cross-shop an F31 and X1 because there is no comparison... except that they both have similar badges and hatches. IMO, it's like somebody who is looking at a 5 series complaining that it's more expensive than a 3 series, or X5 vs X3, etc.

Thank you for that information! Do you have similar figures for cargo capacity w/o rear seats folded for F31 vs X3?

True. Nothing like a tuned E60 535xi with snow tires up in the mountains! What a hoot!

Wow, I'm shocked! My wife has an X3 and the cargo space does not feel that big at all. Maybe it's just the way it's laid out, but my son's stroller actually fits better in the trunk of my A4 sedan than the X3. Thanks for sharing!

AMEN! This F31 is beautiful! But let me ORDER it the way I want: it's a 3 series: 6MT all the way!

BMWNA you're killing me on this. Ok I'd love the diesel or 335, but AT LEAST 6MT!!
6MT = acknowleging & supporting the loyal BMW brand enthusiasts.

So in order to be objective, one must somehow not like some aspect of the design or have some complaint? What if that's how he truly feels? And you don't see a single complaint from Southlight in his review?

Regardless, reviews are subjective by nature.

"BMW would love to offer more models but, as history has taught, they don’t expect to sell too many units of the F31 in the U.S. However, if the market proves them wrong and demands for more, they are ready to offer another model, be it a 335i or a Diesel version."

Um, how about offering the other options up front to generate more sales? Wagons receive ZERO marketing in the US, so that doesn't help either. If they were to finally offer a 335i in wagon form, I would dump my E91 for that in a heartbeat. If they only offer it with the 2.0, I am keeping my E91 until the doors fall off...

I never thought I'd see the day where the most Euro, most badass, most driver focused, most powerful fun to drive 6 speed manual wagon would be a CADILLAC.

BMWNA, please discuss this at your next ///Marketing meeting.

??? The E9X sedans and wagons were comparably priced. I don't see why that'd change with the F30.

If you so, I guess so. I would have thought it easier to lower their heft than to elevate it to get into an SUV. But I've never been overweight, so I can't speak from personal experience.

That seems plausible.

Itgb seems to be the person in the know regarding cargo volumes: are there any figures available about dimensions, especially cargo height? The previous wagon was somewhat low (I have a big dog...), is the F31 going to be taller inside? Is the hatch opening to be taller?

Thanks for the detailed review. I'm ready to replace my E90 and have eagerly been awaiting more information.

I've got a trip planned to Munich for May 2013 and was hoping to do ED. I wasn't sure if it would be available by then, but this definitely makes me more optimistic.

It may be blasphemy on this board, but I was considering giving up the manual transmission on this one. I guess the decision just got made for me.

When can I order? :-)

What a pity that the great looking F31 will only be offered in NA with the 4 cylinder turbo engine. No manual transmission, no 330d and no 335i wagons for North America ! What a brilliant plan to limit the potential market for wagons !!!!

The new F31 328iXdrive (the only version likely to be offered in Canada) will weigh 300+ lbs more than a 328i RWD sedan and it will consume more fuel than the 335i RWD sedan. For these reasons, my plans to order a F31 have been altered in favour of the much more exciting 335i sedan, that will fortunately still be available in RWD !

In Sweden the F31 with the same engine as an F30 has an asking price just 2000 USD more and then you get the split rear seats, automatic tail gate and some other stuff for that money. Very reasonable I think.

My wife had an X1 and I can tell you now, the truck space is far more usuable than the space on the E91 was, in fact it was better in many respects to our F11.

The cubic feet figures are great if you are carrying fluids, but for real world items they tell you sod all.

This was her X1...
