Replacing oem air filter with AFE air filter
Am currently having JB4 stage 2 Map 1.
Am going to buy a DP VRSF or Wagner Plus wagner Evo 2 performance FMIC And will switch to Map 2 or 5..... To do that, do i really need to change the oem air intake to BMS/injen/AFE.....air intkes or if i replaced the oem air filter with AFE/K&N air filter will do the trick for the extra air needed by the turbo's when switching JB4 maps? |

i would stick with the stock paper on the 2nd part of your question. theres a thread floating around here somewhere - someone removed the stock drop in filter completely while doing a dyno run (should result in some power gains since air flow is uninhibited), pulled the EXACT same numbers.
so personally i think changing the drop in filter would just be for sound. search around...most of the feedback on the forums suggest keeping the oem paper. |

Thnx for your feedback....
I read that dyno-ing the car without bolt-ons with oem filter vs after market wont get any extra HP.....mostly sound and in some cases 1 to 4 ho gains which is almost 1% gain. I just wanted to confirm after adding FMIC and a Down Pipe and a JB4 stage 2 - Map2.....the oem paper will do or i can just replace the oem paper with K&N or AFE paper....on the stock air intake |

Even a full intake is hard to feel any power gain. Intakes are 98% just for turbo sounds"whochhh" which is really cool.

Do yourself a favor and ditch the suffocating, restrictive OEM filter. Take it out and look at it. BMW should be ashamed of themselves using this double layered charcoal whateverthefuck it is.
I went aFe filter with no other mods....well worth the $80 for the added sound and peace of mind knowing you're not hampering your engines performance.

I don't have a favorable view of tunes (that's another discussion), but I'm inclined to agree with the forum vendor below: |

To get a noticeable gain for CAI, u'll need to put the intake with direct access from the outside air flow or outside the engine bay. If u compared the power vs the oem box....is almost the same power and in sone cases less power output. The only gain is amplified sound of the turbo woosh......like short air intakes....less actual power gain....more sound This is what i found through mu research... If u want power gains....go with age momentum or awe s/flo enclosed design box like oem intake box or make a hole in the bonnet directly on the air filter 👍👍👍 |

Yes. It's a simple drop-in filter.

You won't hear anything different though. The stock intake is meant to act like a muffler to get ride of the air noises and bark from the intake.

If you drill holes like MPPK, you will get a little bit of additional sound. The filter is not really responsible for the extra sound. |
