I bought a bms dp used. It diddnt come with instructions.

You do not have to remove the exhaust.

Step 1 - Disconnect the two O2 sensors from the engine bay. You may need to trace the lines up from the stock DP first.

Step 2 - Remove the stock DP (There's a clamp holding the stock DP to the catback held on by one bolt and a clamp holding the stock DP to the turbo held on by one bolt. There are also two other bolts holding the stock dp to some brackets).

Step 3 - Remove the O2 sensors from the stock DP and install on the new DP

Step 4 - install new dp

Just get under that and its self explanatory.

Garage List
I found pulling the closest exhaust mount to the cat gave me plenty of room to lower the front half of the exhaust down a few inches with no support and get the cat out.

The trickiest bit is getting the v-band off the lower part of the cat. I futzed with that for far too long before I realized you can just pull one side of the vband over the lip on the DP, then spin the band around to feed it off the lip.

I think the ER instructions might have been written for an F20 - they're wrong in too many little ways (wrong screw count on the belly pan, wrong bolt size on the DP bracket, remove the exhaust etc) to believe they were written for the F30

That being said - if you can work a box of legos, and have some decent tools you can probably change your DP with little to no instructions.

How long does this process take?

I am thinking you will need this swap when you bring it in for service

How the f@&* do you guys reach the top clamp or sensors without a lift? I've done my own coilovers, control arms, brakes, etc with no issues. There's literally no space to get a wrench up that far

Only tools I used were a ratcheting wrench and a ratchet/socket. Unclip the senors from the harness on top of the bay and then remove the DP with the sensors still attached. Once off the car you can swap sensors.

I was finally able to get the top clamp undone. How do the sensors come out? Do they twist out? Push and twist?

Edit - I think I'm an idiot. So the sensors unplug from the top of the engine bay engine bay? I was thinking they unplug from the dp itself

This is what a generic O2 sensor looks like

The sensor itself screws into the cat and will stay attached until you remove the cat from the car. The "plug" part of it is on the back left of the engine bay under that foam insulation. You undo the two plugs and drop the DP with the sensor and everything. Once you remove the cat, you unscrew the sensors. If I remember correctly, it's a 22mm open ended wrench.

Thanks man. I feel like an idiot for not researching more, would have made my life so much easier

these were the instructions i used. easy stuff. hardest part was fitting my fat arms through the tight space for the upper vband.
