I am also a little unclear on this also. Do you get free Nav updates from BMW, does BMW offer them for a price, do/can you buy and update yourself, or are there none available/no way to update?

From what I've read, map updates are usually not free. And I think BMW charges you $300 for em if you want, every year.

My question is, was this included with post July 2012 builds? If not, is this compatible with post July 2012 builds?

The map DVDs are usually very cheap ($10), but you typically MUST have an FSC code that is assigned to your VIN to even load the maps. That will run you $200-300.

I can just go to my dealer and get this FSC code? What's the link that the OP posted for then?

Your dealer may or may not want to mess with selling you a code. Technically, it would be their parts department. Just call and ask if they'll sell you an FSC code for a Nav map update.

The link in the OP is for the Nav maps on a USB stick with maps on it + FSC code that Trade Motion will generate for you. Look at the drop down.

If you live in MD and have a 2012+ model year. It's not worth it. The 2013s still don't show the new ICC. Waste of $$$. Wait until 2014.

Not verified, but my dealer told me DVD updates aren't being done anymore to address the pirating issue that John08135i takes advantage of. Nice one advertising that to the world, too.

Now, map updates are uploaded via cable/network directly to the car.

That doesn't really make sense. Pirating the DVDs doesn't get anyone, anywhere. You still need the $$$ FSC code, which must be obtained from BMW's system.

Does it matter if it's a $30K car (Honda) or $80K car (Benz)? Either one is still going to charge you for map update data. If you get it every 3-4 years, it's not very painful.

Right, but BMW (or someone with access to their systems) still gets paid. In other words no one is getting free Nav updates, just because DVDs are floating around other there.

That's the only significant update map-wise for the state. Which goes to show, given your point. That it isn't worth the $2XX to update.

Yes, yes. We know that. But from a 2012 to 2013 map update? Is it a lot in terms of regional updates? Yes. Worthwhile from a local about-town view? Up for debate I guess.

The bigger question would be what exactly is your current-year maps missing?

I think it makes more sense to skip/wait every 2-4 years for map updates. Lessens the sting of the cost, and you're bound to notice more changes if you're going that long between updates.

No. But then again I don't have an overly large sense of entitlement.

I updated this year to a nice 2010 PREMIUM..

and like always im no going to pay 250+ for Navi update.

So i used the same dude i used for my mk4 code £60 and £30 for the maps
you can download them i guess but i did my install the easy way DVD

http://bmwnavigation.co.uk/bmw-cic/

he gets the code within a hour..and the maps came the following day.

install did take a while but they did add this to the paper work

overall the update was perfect and simple.

no cams with CIC but he talks of a fix his working on the get the speedcams on to CIC..

loads of info in the install section so good to bookmark .

Update 2014..

Had a email from them with a a nice offer , 3 year code for £49 with the maps posted . after last year this was a massive saving , but now for 3 years my new code will work (i hope) so is this a better deal???

Well i have my update now to 2014, i thought i would see HD ??? will there be any updates in the display enhancements??
