Anyone had luck getting the city to pay for damages to their car? One of the mini manhole water covers was SMACK DAB in the middle of the road this morning and busted me up pretty good. Couldn't even turn the steering wheel so I imagine the column or tierods or something major busted. I left a voicemail with the claims department of the Clearwater DOT.

Only time i got the city to pay was when a snowplow hit my car in the street and they drove off, claimed i saw him and they paid with no issues.

Thanks for the link. I sent the city of Clearwater a facebook message as well as the voicemail. I have the item in question in my car as well, and took pictures and a video of where it was exactly in the middle of a 3 lane road. Still waiting to hear what the actual damage is

There's an old saying that you can't sue City Hall. Actually, you can, you just probably won't win. File your insurance claim and hope for the best with the city covering your deductible.

Cities tend to be held to a different standard when it comes to this. Wish you all the best, but I'd take a "plan for the worst, hope for the best" approach

Where exactly in Clearwater. They have some real land mines - even worse when repaving. But what makes you think the road was under FDOT control?

They had 2 land mines right outside the County Offices. Repaved, better, but still not great.

I am at two for two seeking reimbursement for pot hole damage. City of Chicago covered the cost of a wheel and tire and State of CT did the same for a busted bike wheel and tire. The latter went through all kinds of stages of approval and took 8 months start to finish.

Certainly a lot more than most deductibles. Sucks it whacked your ride.

Good lord that would've scared the shit out of me.

They took $500 off for my deductible so just waiting for the check now. I may come out ahead since my intercooler was cheaper than the stock and potentially getting a new rack for less than list price. Also, Geico has been amazing staying in contact and working with the mechanic and emailing me the list bill

Probably because of all the FDOT construction in that area.

Where are you doing repairs?

Do you get $500 back when/if FDOT pays?

Midnite Tuning. They installed my dp cp springs, wheels, etc. The owner said he's done plenty of steering racks so...

If FDOT pays Geico then yes I'll get reimbursed

They emailed me a claim form. Says it could take up to 90 days to review. I'm just asking for rental reimbursement and letting Geico deal with the rest since Geico already agreed to pay me
