iPhone tether recommendations/Is it worth it?

I have two questions

1) What features do you get when you tether iPhone with iDrive? Is it worthwhile? Do you use it often? have you tried getting twitter feeds or FB updates?

2) Any recommendations on app to use for tethering from Cydia store? I already jailbroke my iPhone 5. I don't want to freckin pay AT&T 50 bucks to allow me tethering. Also I have an unlimited data plan which I only use about 2GB/mo.

I am well aware that they throttle/limit bandwidth after 3-5GB of usage.

Just want to experiment with it to see if it is something I'd be interested in doing.

Not sure what you want to accomplish by tethering? Using Bluetooth, you can listen to any audio on your iPhone over iDrive, although control of the functions of the iPhone and its apps are limited. If you have the enhanced Bluetooth and USB option on your car, you can connect the iPhone to the USB port in the armrest and then run Pandora, Stitcher, and I believe MOG through iDrive and be able to control those apps using iDrive (and even get album art on the car's screen).

Through using the BMW ConnectedDrive app on your iPhone, you can access RSS news feeds, Twitter and Facebook news feeds, your calendar, and Web Radio stations.

However, none of this requires "tethering." Having said that, I connect my iPhone using Bluetooth, and use it for phone calls, my address book, and to receive emails and texts over iDrive. Then I keep an iTouch 4 in the armrest to connect to the USB port and run the ConnectedDrive app to get the other stuff. In this setup, I use the iPhone's Hot Spot ability to provide internet access to my iTouch.

This. How do you do the hotspot on iPhone? Did you enable tethering?

Well, I came accross this by one of our forum vendor.

I have USB & enhanced BT and use it just like you do. I want to see use Google maps on iDrive & BMW live, check weather, twitter feeds etc. Also other things that I am unaware of.

For News, Weather, Google Local Search, Office (texts, emails and calendar), you need to go through the iDrive Menu to ConnectedDrive and for some use the BME Connected App.

For Stocks, Weather, Gas prices, you need to subscribe to the convenience plan for BMW Assist: http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...anLanding.aspx
