Both Look like interesting options, I was looking into the Kenlowe electric plug-in Preheating system as my cold starts would almost always be from home where I have an outside plug. However, something has changed!

My 335d is heating up much faster! Within a couple of minutes on idle I am getting warm air through, less than a minute if I start driving. Within a mile from the house it's hot.

I cleared the ice from my windscreen this morning within 3 minutes just with the standard windscreen de-mister. I think a Thermostat might have been stuck and now I've done a few hundred miles it's freed up.

Unless you've got something special, you can't do that - you can only turn on the fans (no A/C, no heat).

I don't know what the issue is here. Unless it's sub zero temperatures, my car's heater generally activates within 2-3 minutes of driving; My heated seats work in less than 60 seconds.

I generally have to turn down the heat dial within 5 miles of driving.

The driving procedure should be - turn on car, wait for RPMs to go under 1000, and drive off.

Maybe you all have a problem with your heaters or some sort of realistic expectation of when the heat kicks in.

Where I live I get up and go to work at 5am, it's not uncommon for the temperature to dip to -30 C° or lower. The thought of being able to take some of that edge off prior to leaving my apartment and hiking across the parking lot is an appealing one.

I certainly think it's better than a lot of folks I see who start their car up cold and just take off and soon as they can get it into gear with no regard how they're treating it.
The difference, from what I've read, is that a warm engine idling will more completely burn the fuel completely where a cold engine will not. The engine will warm up faster by driving it gently and result in less fuel contamination of the oil in the cylinders.

Wintertime Vehicle Pre-Heating

The more I read about auxiliary heating systems, the more I want to undertake this install. In some markets BMW offers as an option but unfortunately I have not been able to find the part numbers on RealOEM.com.

I found that Eberspacher is also a manufacturer for BMW heaters (in addition to Webasco). M&L Automobile in Germany sells retrofit kits.

Webasto preheater

Use a Webasto TSL 17.

A kit like this, from any dealer, or even ebay
https://shopcummins.com/products/web...SABEgJLkPD_BwE

I have one installed in my 2004 Jetta TDI, (hope my attachments worked)
I plan to install one into my new 2014 328d.

Hi,

I have managed to install a Webasto heater in the F30 with the ability to start it via the Connected Drive App. Your Local BMW Dealer would say that this is only possible with the 5 or 7 series vehicle but not the 1 and 3 (F20/F30).
I show how to start it either with the iDrive Menu, the webasto remote control or even the Connected Drive App.

Here is an example:

I have written a manual how you can achieve this even with a cheap Evo 5/5+ branded heater. You do not need to buy the universal kit.

If you are interested write me an email:
webastoheaterf30@gmail.com and you will get the document.

I'm waiting for a remote start module to become available for the 2019 model. The installer said their latest unit will only work up to 2016 BMW.

I just had my 2019 Hyundai hybrid installed with Compustar using OEM proximity key fob to start the car.

To me, a preheating system seems overly complicated and expensive for North America.
