F30 goes camping

Full family of 4 plus all our gear I think we did pretty well. Packed more in than our camp-friends SUV's.

But really, I just wanted to show off the Estoril Blue contrasting against the beautiful greenery of the site!

The car is a 2015 335xi M Performance edition

Thanks for the nice comments. It's the least I could do for the family after having them so graciously put up with the almost impossible reality of owning something sporty (it's a bit small, we could have used a minivan!)

It's the stock adaptive suspension (AFAIK anyways. Dealer didn't mention anything). From some angles it looks quiet high. I think the big wheels pretty much follow the arc of the fender, so the gap may be less apparent than other xdrive cars? I really don't know.

Well done! So many great places to camp here in the lower mainland and the interior of BC. Most of the roads go up...over...and around mountains. Lots of fun and interesting roads. So much nicer to drive there in your car then a mini van. I know...you can't drive the car like you stole it with the family onboard but it sure makes for a nicer ride to the campsite!

Nice! My wife and I used to cram my old E90 full of stuff for just the two of us for camping. Adding kids to that mix is a bit daunting, but good on you for getting out there, and in a fun car.

Do you notice any change in handling, noise, or fuel economy with the roof box? Can you get it installed on the crossbars by yourself, or do you need a second person?

The cross-bars are really quiet. I don't notice them for the most part, even at higher highway speeds.

Adding the roofbox definetly adds lot of wind noise, and I wouldn't want to drive with it on the car for more than a weekend/week at a time. It's looking to be about 1-3 l/100 km difference for consumption depending on speeds.

As far as performance goes. It's not noticeable at all. The box itself is fiberglass and plastic and adds very little weight. It does make some noise up there when going over bigger bumps (some rattles) and of course contents in the bin will also do that as it sloshes around.

Crossbars can be installed yourself without too much issue. Just need to be a bit careful so you don't accidentally bump your roof/scratch paint as you put it over. The box can be done yourself, but its always much better to have another person or a hoist to get up (just because its rather large).

For the most part, I drive it just as hard as I would without the box.

Definetly. That road through golden ears up to the campsite is pretty good.
