I run octane 98 in Lebanon and add some Octane Booster because in Lebanon the gas isn't really high quality, but I am 80% sure it's due to the octane booster, going to completely drain the car of all gas and then fill up again with no octane booster. Will keep you posted.

I am also just tried octane buster on 95 octane. Nothing wrong noticed. Think you need search problem elsewhere. If you use octane buster often, it leads to deposits on the spark plugs.

Completely stock. I am aware of the deposit buildup, however, I use octane booster every 4-5 fuel fill-ups.

To update everyone, drained the gas tank completely and then filled up gas again with no octane booster, sound is gone.

Just to update again, the noise returned. Only happens when engine heats up, and is much much more noticeable when it's in sport mode rather than comfort. Could this be a wastegate problem or exhaust problem or what? No debris whatsoever under the car and this noise is driving me crazy!

The noise is not gone. Is it possible that the exhaust actuator valve is a bit loose and needs to be tightened? I have had this ticking noise problem for such a long time now that only occurs at <3000 RPM. At first I thought it was engine oil, it wasn't. I then thought its bad gas. It wasn't. I even changed from stock to MPE and the noise wasn't there initially, but then returned. I am now going to buy CG's exhaust valve controller to test it out. I think it's the exhaust valve going loose, specially that the ticking stops once it's at 3000 rpm, which is when the exhaust valve remains open all the time. If it is the exhaust valve, can it be tightened?

Apparently it could be the heat shield being a bit loose. Going to try that out tomorrow.

I have a brand new 340i and i have the same ticking noise you describe. Dealer said it was normal. I can only hear it with the windows down and no music. If I close the windows or play music I can't notice the sound.

Can only hear it in low rpms, is very faint.

I noticed that mine typically happens with the AC on. I turned the AC off and the sound wasn't there

This also happens on my car with MPPK almost all the time, also feel like the car is losing power. Dealer told me it's because the gas isn't great and I should add the bmw octane booster. Will try it and let you guys know.

There's a branded BMW octane booster? I find this amusing, I'm guessing the price is ~2x more than that of non-BMW octane booster?

Clicking noise

Hey guys I’m also new to this forum I had the same problem with my car and was ready to try anything to fix it. One day I got out of the gym and the clicking started, it would only click when I accelerated after a day it got louder, this went on for a week until I stumble along to this site and was ready to try it all. But that same day I was picking up my kids and my daughter said daddy maybe if you go faster the clicking would stop. I laughed at her because the faster I went the faster it got. But then I said let see how fast this clicking sound can go so I jumped on the highway and kept accelerating until the clicking was going so fast you didn’t hear it, I had to do about 85 to 90 when it stopped and its been a month now and it didn’t return. I’m not saying go out and speed up the highway but it worked for my 2006 BMW 525xi

While every unusual "clickity-clack" sound may have its own root cause, I requested my dealer to investigate my "clickity-clack" sound at 19K miles (2013 BMW F30 335i xDrive) which could be heard at idle speeds and more pronounced while AC was turned on.

Belt tensioner and engine vacuum pumps were first suspected as the root cause but were quickly ruled out. BMW dealer removed the oil pan and examined the oil for excessive metal shavings. The root cause: excessive connecting rod bearing wear.

BMWNA approved full engine replacement. It's been now 2 weeks and I am still listening for unusual sounds.

PS. My local BMW dealer has been exceptional in managing this issue with BMWNA.

Is there any updates to this issue? My n55 X5 is doing the same exact thing. Ticking when warmed up from idle to about 3K. Dealer swapped in a new turbo and it still does it.
