Car wash ... OMG ! ... swirl heaven since 1911

I tool my baby to a hand car wash today recommended by a friend .. it was the most nerv racking experience ... total fuds!! paid no care to the car and have added swirls in the paint on the bonnet... total rush job!

Not quite as bad as using the drive through ones but pretty pish poor!

I am going to get the car detailed in the next 2 weeks.

Can swirls like that be easily removed??

I am going to kit myself out and only wash my own car from now on...

Cant believe I took it there... should have driven off! fuck!

Swirl marks would come out easily for a detailer, don't sweat it

You simply cannot trust anyone but yourself and your detailer to wash your car properly. Unless they're using proper technique with 2 bucket wash method, swirls are inevitable.
In fact, even with 2BM and correct technique, you're still likely to induce swirls, although to a far lesser extent

Im disappointed in you mate!

A detailer should be able to sort all but the worst scratches. Now dont do it again ok!

My feelings exactly! although I did have every intention of taking it to the detailer any ways as I had noticed marks from the Dealers attempt at washing the and preparing the car... today's escapades have only added to it!

Could you not have just popped into your local filling station and used the jet wash yourself to get rid of the bird crap, wouldn't have been a perfect job if you didn't have some form of contact with the car but would be better than swirl heaven.

Not that many pressure washers at garages these days.

It's easier finding an imiwash than garage pressure one.

Find a strong enough light and you'll see swirl marks on any finish

If the bird crap has been on for more than a few minutes it doesn't matter what you wash with it will have eaten the clear coat anyway so you will need a detailer to sort it out.

I respectfully disagree. Yes, it's bad to leave bird muck on cars, but it won't eat through the clear coat in a few minutes. And if the clear coat does get eaten through, you don't need a detailer, you need a refinisher.

Back on topic, we often go to the coast and my wife's car seems to be a magnet for birds. I buy packets of Autoglym bird dropping wipes from Halfords when needed and leave them in the boot. I can't help but feel it's a wet wipe in an autoglym sachet, but they do work...

Perfect? No because horror of horrors you're wiping something on your car's paint which will cause swirl marks, impotence, a loss of at least 10bhp, and small children to mock the pope. Better than leaving it to fester? You bet.

It best to have something in between the birds and the paint. Shotgun pellets preferably. However, the more humane response is to make sure your paint is well protected by wax / sealant layers... Then hose off at the earliest opportunity... I live and work within a few hundred yards of the sea... So, used to such occurrences. Though, my neighbours must think I'm insane hosing off my car at such odd times.
