So I bought a F30,328i
So I now have a 328i msport (AT) and took it out to play on the EVO triangle in North Wales.
Drove 250 miles , average speed 44 mph and 31 mpg. A lot of acceleration in hilly Wales and a very fast motorway drive back home. More than happy with the mpg . I saw a TV programme where owners of one litre petrol engined were quoting real life mpg of 31-33 mpg. So how does BMW manage to give me a similar figure with a much more powerful engine. As for the EVO triangle if you live near the Peak district save your time and do that instead. |

Witchcraft...
The turbo's giving torque from low revs combined with the ZF 8 speed auto lets the recent BMW petrol engines achieve unexpected fuel economy when driven "normally"... When not pushed hard they seem to ride the torque much like a diesel.

I have been pleasantly surprised at how economical my 328i is (mind you, compared with my previous 530i E39 that's perhaps not hard.
On a run home from work driving very gently but from a cold start I got over 50mpg and average on mainly A and M roads is over 40 |

Ha ha - yes, there's no driving enthusiastically if you want 53mpg :-)
It was just an exercise to see what I could get when I wasn't in a hurry to get home. Normally I get around 40mpg mixed driving (but very few short runs) |
