[E90Fleet]

With many haven driven F30 and many more that will soon, whats the verdict on the comfort of new runflats ? A good improvement ?

Doesnt seem to have been many complaints about them yet, unlike on early E90.

If you have driven on them please mention the make if you can remember ( Bridgestone, Goodyear, Pirelli ect ect)

We currently have four F30 models at the dealership I work at. You do notice a difference in the ride, handling, and noise levels over the E90's runflats. They are not noisy and the handle alot better. I am not a fan of runflats at all. I have a 2007 328ci and I soon as I bought it I changed the wheels, tires, and bought a spare. I bought Michelin Sports and I'm glad I did. My 328ci came originally with Continental runflats. They were so noisy and drove like I was riding on concrete. The newer version of runflats are a major improvement.

I have the Goodyear Excellence tires on my F10 535i. They are much quieter and have a much better ride than the Bridgestone RE050A RFTs I had on my E93 335i. Comfort and performance wise they are great.

However, I already have a bubble in the sidewall of one of my tires. This is a big problem on the F10 cars. Normally, I would never buy those insurance upsells the dealers try to get you to buy, but the Road Hazzard insurance might be a good idea with the F30. The tires are expensive and bubbles have become a major issue on the F10 boards.

Just remember there were 2 versions of the RE050A that came with E90

The RE050A II came with the original E90/2/3
The much improved RE050A I came with the E90 LCI models

Yes, II came before I and I had big improvements

I replaced my tires during my 3 years with the E93 and both were crap from a ride and noise standpoint. I don't know which I had.

Any idea which of those tires is most aggressive, i looked up the goodyears, and they look more like an all season tire while, the bridgestone and contis look more summer

Still awaiting my F30 but dealer invited me to drive the 335 they just got in (Sport w/18 inch) and they were the Goodyears. I was amazed by the handling and thought they rode fine, huge improvement over the Continentals that came on my E90. What you said about the tire insurance makes sense though....gotta be expensive and I want to use them on long road trips and use TBD wheels/tires for everyday (as soon as I find the optimum fitment).

I believe the M Sport may only be comming with the Bridgestone S001. So it may be the top.
It is summer only (not a problem in many markets)

I think the Goodyears and Pirelli P7are all season
The Continentals and P Zero should be summer

My F30 335 came with the Goodyear tires... Good Ride and Nice handling but not enough grip overall. This may be because I am used to the staggered fitment on my 07 335i that had 255's in the back. Anyway I need more grip... Wish the wider tire was an option with the 18's.

This isn't limited to RFT's, Goodyear's have been prone to sidewall bubbles for years. My ex had a 1999 Audi A4 that developed sidewall bubbles in all four Goodyears within the first month of owning that car. We replaced them with Michelins and never had another issue. I know it's not safe to blanket an entire brand, but I do intentionally avoid Goodyear tires.

How many miles should we get out of these tires before replacement? I've heard that run flat tires wear out quicker.

I can only say that a test drive I had in a 328i Modern (didn't check the tyre brand) felt like a Rolls Royce after my 2007 520d. Run flats have definitely improved.

I have 18" Pirelli CintuRatu P7 RSC. They seem a little noisy while turning at low speeds but that may also be due to how quiet the car is. Other than that no problems.

I have about 600 miles on my 17" Pirelli CintuRatu P7 RSC tires. They ride very well and I have had no real issues. I will say that they are not the grippiest tires and at higher speeds they tend to wallow/roll a little on fast lane changes. Overall I'd give them a 7 out of 10. Not bad....not great.

I don't think it's the tires, it's the new F30 chassis which has more rubber between the chassis and the subframes/suspension such that the runflat effects are not felt like in the e90. Probably the subframe bushings are softer/larger and the front arms bushings are softer. Otherwise people wouldn't feel improvements on all brands of tires. It's not like suddenly all tire companies got smart and designed better run-flat tires beginning this year. It must be the BMW tuning for run-flats that's got better.

My Sport Line came with the atrocious Goodyear Efficient Grips that handle like absolute garbage. They are more comfortable and compliant than the OEM runflats on my e90, but the tradeoff in handling capability and braking performance negated any gains in comfort. I already switched mine out with Sumitomo HKR ZIIIs (non runflat) and they are brilliant. I very nearly got in a serious wreck a few weeks ago when a guy flipped a u turn right in front of me when I was going about 60 mph. The front end lost grip immediately with the Goodyears and I nearly skidded sideways in my effort to avoid a collision. Needless to say, the tires were swapped within 48 hours.
