TPMS doing my head in.

So after all the trouble before xmas with my TPMS I went back and re did everything. Coded TPMS back to

In HU_NBT > 3001, code RDC to activ
In HU_NBT > 3001, code RDC_SAFETY to active
In HU_NBT > 3001, code RPA to nicht_activ
]
then refitted my 19" and went for a drive after 5 miles pressures reset and system was fine.

Then recoded again to turn on RPA and turn off TPMS
In HU_NBT > 3001, code RDC to nicht_activ
In HU_NBT > 3001, code RDC_SAFETY to nicht_active
In HU_NBT > 3001, code RPA to activ

All settings got set and all looked good. Left the 19" with TPMS and drove around fine with RPA working. Then with temps dropping to below zero boxing day I swapped back to my winters 18". Today after 10 miles got the same error about RDC failure.

Its doing my head in as it should work or am I missing another area in the coding, though from what I read up above should be enough.

Either this or need to find x4 TPMS sensors - Doh

What is RPA? I am not familiar with this...
I coded on my tyre temps and pressures, but seem to remember this was only one line item to change...
Had no problems so far.

RPA is the old functionality that uses rotation to sense if there is a puncture. E90 series used them so no need for TPMS sensors in each wheel. Coing the temps etc works fine. But in my case rather not have to spend over £100 on some sensors for few months of the year. Hence coded them out and set car to use RPA. to be honest I might try setting all to nichactive otherwise

I had the local tire shop take the sensors from my summer wheels and put them on my winter wheels because they didn't have the correct sensor in stock at the time.

yep that woudl set me back £50 at least then another £50 to put back in summer thats about half the cost of the sensors done in one year

Surely you also need to code the FEM_BODY module, as it controls the TPMS. The coding in the HU is only secondary.

Best way would be to find the vehicle order FA code for TPMS and remove it, then find the FA code for RDC and add it. Then of course code the FEM_BODY module and HU_NBT so the FA will automatically change all the corresponding parameters in those modules.

You can find the FA codes using the FP Viewer in NCD CAFD Tool (just google ncd cafd tool to find the thread on it in the 'other' BMW site, started by the one we can't mention on here!

It's a shame there isn't a list available of all the FA codes like there is for E9x! If we just knew them it would be the same as coding EBT (which is technically changing the FA, not coding)

You can use that tool to find the TPMS FA code within your FEM _BODY's CAFD, but then we don't know the one for RDC!

Maybe @shawnsheridan can shed some light?

If you can easily afford the sensors that's probably the best way to go, but if you want to save the money this is definitely worth a go if we can just find those two FA codes.

its the case of for the few months I use them lot of cash to get rid of the light, annoying really. £150 I rather use on something else but if no other choice might have to go with it.

List of FA Option Codes (SALAPA-Element, E-Wort and HO-Wort) can be seen with the FP Viewer in TokenMaster's NCD / CAFD Tool.

TPMS (RDC) is 2VB.

Ah ok!

I think Magic has got things a bit confused in first post, TPMS is RDC, now we need the FA code for RPA (flat tyre warning) to replace 2VB?

I don't think RPA actually has an Option Code as it is standard, and RDC is the upgraded Option 2VB.

I would remove 2VB from FA, and VO Code NBT, Kombi, ICM, and RDC.

Then I would FDL code NBT => REIFENUEBERWACHUNG_RDC_RPA = rpa

thanks, everybody will give it a go. Might work hopefully otherwise will just need to buy a set of sensors.

Shouldn't he VO code FEM_BODY ?

well went back and reviewed any other settings for RDC and intersting results but no win.

Managed to activate the reset function on the NBT screen so could now force a reset of pressures but still RDC warning returns. Changing the main VO is probably a way to go but that's getting in too deep. Rather just get the sensors so thats the plan. FYI in total found the following RDC settings but even putting all these to nicht activ did not help fully with RDC remaining. So as sheridan said probably removing 2VB from FA but run out of battery power on laptop / time. Plus as this resets all other coding is not area I like to dig around. So sensors is going have to be

(also pulled the fuse and no avail)

Ones I found and set as below if anyone wants to try are >

FEM_BODY
30D0 - rc_rdc_enable - set to nicht active

KOMBI
3004 - st_tyr_rdc_timeout - set to nicht active
- st_tyr_rdc_alive - set to nicht active

HU_NBT

REIFENUEBERWACHUNG_RDC_RPA = set to rpa (enabled reset on the screen)

3001, RDC - set to nicht_activ
3001, RDC_SAFETY - set to nicht_activ
3001, RPA - set to active

Do you have ICM Module? If so, what is name of CAFD?

I think no matter what FDL coding you do it will still come up with an error as the car still thinks it has TPMS/RDC

I don't think it's much bother re-doing previous coding after VO coding a module(s) so i will be trying this method on my next car when i put my winters on, so November 2016!
