Rear wheel size dilema urgent plz :(

Hi all. New to this. Just purchased my first 3 series f30 335d.

I bought some m4/5 style wheels. When the garage went to fit them today they put one rear on (without tyre) and asked me to take a look. They said that they arent going to fit and it did seem like the wheels would rub on the inner side of the wheel next to the suspension. And may rub or fowl the outter arch too.

I called the company up and they were suprised as they regularily fit these to f30s. The company did seem quite decent and are willing to refund but said that i should try. Anyway. After then talking to the garage owner i was convinced to not try, repackage and send back.

However upon reading it seems many are using the 9.5 inch on the rear even tho it kinda looked like it would fowl with my very eyes.

If i give you the exact wheel and tyre combo can someone kindly confirm that they are too big? I have the curiour booked for tomorrow you see and so still have a chance to change my mind!

The wheels are:

Front - 19 x 8.5 ET38

Rear - 19 x 9.5 ET40

And tyres:

Front - 235/35/19

Rear - 265/30/19

And i am in the UK if that makes any difference

Thank you

David

I can't say with certainty, but I imagine the offset is too much. Have you checked the offset on the original wheels currently on the car?

There are quite a few members here running M4 wheels without any issues. I personally think 19x9.5 with 40 offset while it is on the aggressive side, but not unreasonable.

The key thing is the tire size.

Also when the car is lifted, it does not provide an accurate stance as when the car is on the ground. Suspension components play a big role in how your car sits on the ground.

I personally think you will be fine if you are not planning to lower the car, but if you carry 4 adults in the back with 100 lbs of golf clubs in the trunk regularly, then i don't know.

Tturedraider - no i havent. However i was told a number of times by the shop that they would fit. Plus my standard 19s are the 403m style which i know ate 8s front and 8.5 rears. Hope that helps

Oonowindoo - thanks for your reassurance. It does seem that they is a degree of uncertainty doesnt there. Hmm. Tricky to know what to do. Think i may just let them go and get some thinner ones

Have a play with this.

http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp

Based on OEM sizing of 255/35R19x8.5 ET47 vs replacement 265/30R19x9.5 ET40, there is zero risk of fouling the suspension and the package will stick out 12mm further. Apparently acceptable for most cars.

Those sizes are fine for BMW 437m (M3/M4 - not M5) on a F30, however you note these are STYLE (non-OEM) wheels.

I know you posted specs, though not sure I would trust them.

The big issue most F30 users running 437m wheels will be alignment, gIven that early adopters have destroyed rear wheels at 6k miles.

It's well known and posted all over that M3/M4 wheels GENERALLY won't fit on non-M cars. Sorry you had to discover that fact the hard way.

The offset (40mm) and the additional width are designed to fit the M3/4 with it's wider bodywork. You generally have to have the fenders rolled to get them to fit. There is a thread here that talks about this subject in detail:
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...hlight=finally

One thing you can do is to buy a set of 4 front wheels (which are narrower with less offset), and use a square setup with the same wheels and tires front and rear.

Tires are too short to me. You should be using 235/40 and 265/35.

Also those rear wheels work. Many people run that exact spec. Either the wheel set was wrong or the guy was trying the front wheel on the rear

I just put my summer wheels on yesterday. They're M5 reps and on the rear I'm running 19x9.5, et38, and 265/30. No rubbing so far but have not had any passengers in the back yet.

While the 235/35 & 265 30 might not be the exact rolling diameter as OEM. But i am sure it is closer than 235/40 & 265 35.

Wrong. You should do some research...

235/35 19 - 25.5 inch diameter
265/30 19 - 25.3 inch diameter

OEM -
225/40 19 - 26.1 inch
255/35 19 - 26 inch

My suggestion
235/40 19 - 26.4 inch
265/35 19 - 26.3 inch

BMW speedometers read slightly high, so a smaller radius that you're suggesting will make the speedometer read even higher. A slightly larger radius evens it out.

Also BMW suggests keeping tire size within 1% of the OEM diameter. My suggestion fits that. Yours does not.

Plus, who wants even shorter sidewalls than OEM already has?

Where did you come up with this?

Even your linked thread contradicts you.

Op, your tire sizes are off. They should be 235/40 and 265/35. Many forum member are using these exact size wheels and tires including myself. My car is lowered on h&r super sports too. Your offsets are accurate enough though. Mine are 40 rear and 35 front and no rubbing. I'd take the car to another mechanic if I were you. Who in their right mind test fits wheels without the tires mounted on them. SMH

They should fit imo, as I am running 275/35r19 in the rear with et 46 without any rub. I would take them to another garage to get them test fitted

Tire sizes are fine. I'm running those exact sizes with no issues as are many others.
