No more F31
So I'm hearing the wagon, excuse me Touring, will be discontinued after MY17. I know in the past there have been gaps in the production like with the delayed introduction of the F31 (2014 vs 2012 for the sedan), but I'm reading more of a definitive "no more wagon". Anybody have any more info on this?

Tourings are extremely popular in Europe, no way it's gonna happen.
Or you mean only North American market?

Damn that's a bummer. But then again I blamed this on the SUV/XUV culture that North Americans have cultivated. Seems like F31s might be joining the ranks of Avants....

If Mercedes can see the demand I wonder why Bmw can't. |

probably has something to do with the 4 Gran Coupe being kind of popular in NA.
the GC and Touring is relatively similar in my eyes. Both have 4 doors and a gate trunk. upside of the GC over Touring is it comes with a 35 engine instead of just the 28. |

They killed the manual wagon. Not because the 6MT is a huge seller but with X models all automatics along with the GC, the touring is just another form factor that drives the same. Just pick a model where an old school enthusiast has a choice of transmission. When I look at Subaru in Toronto, there are still a lot of manuals being sold.
When all cars are automatic, the differentiation is a lot less than you realize between BMW, Audi and MB. Even the other brands of cars/SUVs start blurring. Porsche learned with the Cayman GT4, there is still pent up demand to sell a few thousand cars to enthusiasts. If you only had one car left to have a manual in your lineup, the F31 would be the best car to capture the most enthusiasts/sales, not the F30 sedan. Last edited by focal; 09-02-2016 at 09:43 AM.. |

Touring is for the hockey bags, not for the MT enthusiasts.

We all get old and just want one car to meet all our needs. Brother has an E61 and E91 with 6MT. He's driving them to the ground. Wish I got one when they were available also. I have a F30 6MT because it was one of the last 6MT BMW's I could get with utility. I put my money where my mouth is though for 6MT. I do have a p-car w/ 6MT also for fun. Maybe I'm getting old, but the last thing I want after a hockey game is a manual transmission
p.s. 4GC is surprisingly awesome for the hockey bags, mainly due to a hatchback door.

Headroom is a non starter for myself nor passengers in the 4GC. Definitely a prettier car though. |

Order one without sunroof and you will get plenty of space above. And I'm 6'2'', I know what I'm talking about

Missed the window to get a 4GC in manual now in Canada. My next car could be the 340xi sedan and if that looses the manual or I'm unwilling to drop $60-70k, then I'll really have to consider a different car. I have no issue moving to a VW Golf Wagon or even a Mini Clubman. My daily car really doesn't have to be that expensive anymore after I got the GT4.
