Looks like I saw the wrong one.
I was in 3005 DISPLAY_PIP_CONFIG. CID_DISPLAY_SIZE showing 6_5, 7_0, 8_8, 10_25, current set on 6_5.
CID_DISPLAY_RES = 800_480, 1240_480, 1440_540, 1600_600, 1920_720. Current set on 800_480

DISPLAY_SIZE_RESOLUTION was in 3006 Navigation, couldnt locate it in 3001. It was already set to 10.25_1280X480
Available option = 6.5_800x480, 8.8_1280x480, 10.25_1440x540, rse_9.2_800x480, rse_10.x_180x720

hello guys! sorry to invade this post but i just bought the 8.8" screen to replace my 6"
i've done so many coding with esys but now... it simply doesnt work it keeps asking for the PIN. i unput the pin but it asks again, do we have other way around it?

It looks like HU_ENTRYNAV2 has separated the display size and resolution into two settings. If you can see and change DISPLAY_VARIANTE = breites_display, then it looks like a 8.8" screen can be coded.

Cars made in 2013 have an older head unit which can't be programmed for a larger screen. Do you have navigation? Post a photo of the iDrive main menu to be sure.

EDIT: If you want to retrofit the whole head unit (not just screen), that's a very complicated thing to pull off and out of the scope of this thread. Search the forums for "NBT retrofit".

Quick question I'm hoping someone can help me - I installed e sys today to do some coding on my car, and found that I have HU_ENTRYNAV, not NBT or CIC.
The weird thing is my car was built in 2012, so I'm not supposed to have ENTRYNAV?

Just trying to figure out if the screen upgrade is possible.

If you have basic nav (called business nav), you could've gotten HU_ENTRYNAV sooner... but 2012 looks suspicious, please double-check it and look if you can find these two parameters:

HU_ENTRYNAV > HMI > DISPLAY_SIZE_RESOLUTION = 8.8_1280x480
HU_ENTRYNAV > EXBOX > DISPLAY_VARIANTE = breites_display

Don't change them, just see if these options are available to be set.

EDIT: You can take a photo of the main iDrive menu and post it here, that may help, too.

Thank you for the response. Before I get a chance to check those coding parameters, here's a pic I found online of what my system looks like. Not sure if this helps narrow things down or not. Entrynav/CIC/NBT confuses the shit out of me....


Also for what it's worth I do not have navigation, and the car is Canadian spec.

That indeed looks like HU_ENTRYNAV. Be sure to check eSys to be sure. Are you sure your car was made in 2012?

Don't get discouraged with your search for the correct screen. I just scored a coveted, 'A' condition, 12v 65506822626 screen, which should be a direct plug-in for my '17 330i. For $150.
I think I just have to unscrew the old screen & screw this one in, no coding?

Yes 100% sure, it's a 2013 model build in early 2012. Super weird. Haven't had a chance to check the coding yet but plan to this weekend

If the old screen is the same size, resolution and type (glossy/matte) as the new one, then you just swap it. Otherwise you will get "NO SIGNAL" on the screen until you code it.

PS: The only matte screen is the 6.5" screen on cars without navigation. All others are glossy.

The look-up database is just terrible. I put in "2017 330i" and nothing came up. I put in "2016 440i" and this came up, out of a 2017 330i...!

No (sigh), I have a 6.5 non-nav, matte screen. I bought the E-sys cable, but have a mental block with the programming stuff.

Upgrade from 6.5" to 8.8" has to be coded in eSys. Don't worry, it's easy. Check the coding forums for help.

my F31 LCI is from 11/2015, I do not have navigation and have the small screen. Idrive says the version of media is MV-130.007.002 does it help? Also when I put my VIN (K627781) into realoem I see only possibilites for screen with navigation. My question si what is the chance to upgrade to 8.8 screen in my car? And could you suggest what other retrofits for my car would come into considaration with only a little effort? :-) Time has changed since my e46 and the options and variation of units is amazing. Thanks a lot.

You should have the HU_ENTRYNAV head unit, which supports the larger screen. You need to get an ENET cable (requried for coding) and the screen itself (you can choose from two types - see photos and details in this post).

If you want to be 100% sure, get the ENET cable first, download eSys software and check HU_ENTRYNAV coding. Then buy the screen on eBay.
