***RESOLVED***
I was sitting in park last night in a driveway, talking on the phone, when I got the "Passenger Restraint System" warning. I had been sitting there maybe 15 minutes when I got the warning. I was sitting in the driver's seat, buckled in. Nothing was in the passenger's seat. Anyone else had this happen? I did a quick search, but didn't see anything relevant. This has been my first problem with my F30. It has 6341 miles on it. After a restart the code went away. 1st pic: iDrive display 2nd pic: Dash Display 3rd pic: Hidden/Locked Dash Menu ('Check' Submenu) 4th pic: Blurry HUD warning

I've had this problem for some time now, first time I saw it was around 3000km i believe and I am currently at ~10500 km. Warning just comes and goes.
Took it to the dealer twice to fix it. The second time around they said some part in it is faulty (i.e. some sensor/electronics) but since the car is so new we won't have new parts until March 2013. I just live with it now. Annoying but hey, what can you do? Quote:

Passenger Airbag Malfunction
My car is a 2012 335i, Luxury. I am having the same problem with the passenger airbag. I just bought the car with 2600 miles, and it started when I would get on the highway with no passenger about 20-40 miles into a drive. The car is currently at the shop and they have had it for about a week. I will let you know if they get it fixed, and what they say. I hopefully will have the car back this week.

Passenger Airbag Malfunction
My car has been in the shop for 6 business days, and my service rep told me today that the wiring harness is not the problem for the airbag, but it actually wiring itself that is bad. They are having to re-wire the airbag, and I hopefully should get the car back on Friday. That will be total of 8 business days and almost 2 weeks of me not having my car for this problem. I hope that I will not have to post again, and this fixes the problem.

Airbag Passenger Fault Fixed
My car has been back for about a week, and they fixed the problem. Wiring going to the passenger seat airbag sensor on the bottom of the seat was faulty and replaced. In order to replace this wiring, the seat, carpet, and glove box were removed from the car, and the wiring was run and replaced to the airbag module. This has seemed to fix the problem as I have not had an issue in a little over a week. If you have this problem, this may be the answer. Good luck.

Passenger Fault Again
After about 2 months, the passenger airbag fault is back. I will have to go back to the dealer to find a new solution. This is disappointing.

Mines been doing it since 10 miles. I now have 9k. I gave up. Sometimes it very rarely happens then it goes through a period of doing it all the time. It's s vicious cycle. Annoying. Only problem with the car so far.

Unfortunately I now get the warning all the time. Got it twice this morning. Usually turning off the car and restarting it will make it go away for the rest of the trip. Sure would suck if the airbags didn't go off in an accident. :\ I'm headed back to the dealer for an oil service and to have this hopefully resolved. |

Sounds like an issue with the wire harness. Especially since it comes and goes. Try moving the passenger seat around to see if the warning comes/goes. And of course take it to the dealer...

Oh the lemon law'er.... There is always one... lol
As an update... I took mine in and the dealer said they couldn't repeat the problem, so no action was taken. I took it to another dealer, and they agreed to keep the car until it happened again, and give me a loaner. They also said that if they couldn't get the problem to repeat itself, they would get a field service engineer to come and look at it. I have numerous pictures of this happening, so I have a pretty strong case. I'll be taking it back to them as soon as I can get a change to.

The technician and service manager that I talked to at the 2nd dealer suspected that to be the problem. They said they have had a lot of the new 6-series having that issue. He said they would have to get the engineer involved for them to get BMW warranty to pay for it though since it doesn't throw any fault codes.

Any updates on this? I started to buy a 2013 335i buyback that had this issue but the warning light came back on after they had supposedly fixed it. Any permanent fixes yet?

They replaced the control unit that is behind the sunroof switch. After replacing that, I've had no issues so far. Been almost a year with no faults. Well... No airbag faults.

Also have this issue on my early-model 2013 335 luxury..
I've also replaced the FZD with a newer revision and re-flashed it with the latest psdzdata but the issue is still present.. Was there something else that they mentionned that needed to be done? |
