High fuel consumption

On my 2014 328i GT xDrive, I am getting barely 20 mpg on a regular basis with a 50/50 mix of highway/city driving.

I just completed a 1200 mile journey across California. The consumption is coming out to be around 27 mpg and these were primarily highway miles.

Is this MPG common other 328GT drivers?

Sabrerider, I'm getting about the same numbers, and I'm in Western PA. But on avg, my speed on the highway is in the 80's. I noticed the highway speed makes a huge difference on mpg.

Brhon, how are you getting such high numbers???

My car has 2000 miles on it and the mpg's on the computer say 27.5 which is a mix but not a ton of stop and go city. When I took it on the highway for an hour trip and reset it, put it in eco and set the cruise at 70 I got 36.8 mpg for the trip. I think the mpg's are ok but considering I averaged almost 25 with my 09 335i then it really isnt that good with the 2.0.

I got around 20 mpg the day I drove my 335GT home from the dealer in Akron, OH. Since then, however, I'm showing mid 24 mpg. I live in a somewhat rural area, so I would say my driving is 50/50 highway/city. To be honest, I'm pretty happy with the mpg.

Hei. My 320ia Gt xdrive gets about 0,95 L/km at this moment. That translates to about 24,8 mpg in city driving. My previous 2010 320dat got about 0,8L/km (30 mpg) in city driving.

Dont know if the 328i is suppose to use a lot more since its the same engine basically.

Tyres mean a lot and correct airpressure aswell

My 328i GT has just passed 5000 miles and the Journey Computer, which has never been reset, shows 32.2 mpg.
I recently brought the car back home from Inverness (42 miles), driving quite steadily in traffic and on local roads (we don't have motorways, autobahns or interstates up here !), and the trip computer showed over 39 mpg.
My car does not have X drive and I guess the X Drive must make a considerable difference.

The trend here in europe with downsizing petrol engines with turbos shows reduced consumption when at constant cruising speed, but increased compared to NA engine in city driving with revs going up and down.

And isnt imperial gallons different from us gallons?

My mileage was bad in the 335GT for the first ~2000 miles, but over the last 2-3 tanks of gas it has been improving. I've gone from about 22mpg on the computer to now 24.8. About 75% Highway miles...Haven't run it dry, but getting 360-370 miles per tank before the low fuel light comes on. It seems about the same as my wife's 07 335i and better than the ZHP.

I am just over 7k miles, I rotate my tires every 5k and check tire pressure every 3 weeks-our roads suck (michigan). I drive in Sport mode all the time. The only time I realize a drop in MPG is when I use the paddle shifters. This is a huge increase what I am used to coming out of a Nissan Armada 4x4.

All Hwy driving in comfort mode.

That's about what I get. My overall is 23.5mpg, 40% city and 60% highway. I'm in Pittsburgh, so it's hilly. And in the highway, I go anywhere between 70-85mph. A mostly highway trip usually dials in at 27mpg overall.

Not trying to sound like an Outlander -- But it might be a good thing.

I truly wanted to get the 2014 3GT (it was my first chocie), but since they did NOT bring the Diesel to NA/USA, I passed and "settled" for the 2014 328d xDrive.

Maybe if there is a push/surge/promotion from this forum to bring this engine to NA/USA then BMW might get the message.

My mileage with that diesel engine (which is the SAME as the European 3GT version) is doing upper 30s local and upper 40s on road/traffic on the hwys here in NY/Long Island/USA.

Maybe there should be a surge on this forum to push/promote the bringing of the diesel version to NA/USA.

THe power/torque enjoyment is on a similar level. However, the MPG is light years ahead of the petrol/gas version.

It will make a difference if you start to chime in. And the availability of diesel and the cost factor is in our favor.

Just my humble 2¢.

Just turned 12k miles. Computer says 29.5 overall. Comfort mode without too much of a lead foot. My xdrive 328 GT gets better gas mileage than my wife's 2011 328i sedan and seems to be just as peppy.

Sounds to me like an issue with driving style. IMO almost every driver on the road will not get anywhere close to advertised mileage due to their driving style. Almost everyone is hard on the gas and hard on the brakes, speeds up and slows down with the rest of traffic, not pacing themselves to take advantage of clear road or paying attention to flow. Thats fine if you want to spend you money that way, the gas I save on my commute goes into my trackday fund

the computer is terrible at calculating actual mileage.

The best gauge is when I fill up, I do it the old fashioned way and use my calculator.

Today I filled up 14.4 gallons driving 264 miles.

that's probably the worst I could possibly do, seeing as how I stomp on the gas a lot.

On the high end, if I drive conservatively, like when I was breaking in my car, I'd get around 24 mpg.

The computer always says I'm 3 or 4 mpg higher than I actually am.

So I set my GT on cruise control and paced myself 90% of a 2-hr interstate drive, a and averaged ~33 mpg on 75mph.

Forgot to mention, 328i (N20), xDrive, mostly EcoPro while cruise control was set.

After I got off the highway, and got one Rt30 (windy country road), I was having some fun driving on Sport+ and shifting with paddles for about 25 minutes… brought the overall MPG down to ~31. I kept an eye on the moment-to-moment fuel consumption, and I was somewhere between 7MPG to mid-teens while I was having fun.

Today I travelled about 400 km to visit another city (including highways and town driving). The trip consumption was 5,5 l/100 km, which gives 18,2 km/l. I find it impressively good for a 184 PS, 320d GT xdrive.

I drove about 60% in comfort mode, 30% in eco pro and 10% in sport. Used autopilot in the higways.

(Sorry for using the MKS system, but that's how it is displayed here...)
