Was at Bmw Bowker today in Blackburn, mate picking up a Z4. Asked them, can't do it.

The wiring needed to be installed makes it unfeasible. He did mention about aftermarket, but it would void your warranty.

Garage List
My dad has it on his lexus and I used it on a landcruiser on holiday. I think it's nice once you're used to it, but I don't really miss it and would never consider paying extra for it.

I did find it took a lot of getting used to on being sure it locked/unlocked when swiping the handle. I also can't get rid of this niggling feeling that it's not a foolproof system - that something could mess up and someone could just drive away in my car...

To follow up, I had checked with bimmerretrofit.com and they replied that though the retrofit was possible, it was not easy and would have to be performed at the dealer because of VIN specific ordering. My CA confirms they can do it for me, and is checking on pricing. So, it can be done... For the right price.

retrofitting is going to be costly.

what really pisses me of is that they dont include this as standard. the Japanese competitors do! What makes even less sense is the fact that they half integrated the system already since the start button is key-less. such a stupid tactic by BMW.

I've had it on all my cars for the past 5 years, its definitely a nice convenient feature. It works a lot better on my Jag....its a 1 step process, all i have to do is pull the handle and the car unlocks while i open my door.

I can see the attraction to women who generally have the biggest bunch of keys ever, coupled with the tendency to leave them in the bottom of a hand bag.

So to me comfort access is a waste of time.

The day they integrate a phone app that replaces the key altogether, and locks/unlocks on proximity, then I'm in.

The day that happens, we either have hackers creating BMW hack apps (steal your car .com) or you go to car and battery is flat on phone.

I have never seen need or requirement for comfort access, if I have that much shopping, put it in trolley and open car....
Even with a key fob, I sometimes open and reclose it as missed hazards flashing.

Caressing my car would look mad lol

The issue with washing it is a problem, would the same happen walking away on very rainy day?

I had CA on an E61 a few years back. A nice feature, but not one that I was in any way thinking of as a must-have on my F31.

On the E61, to unlock the car you put your hand into the door handle-grab. Car unlocks. To lock, you simply close the door, and place your thumb over the sensor patch on the handle. Car locks. I was never there 'stroking' the door handle, or finding my car locking and unlocking itself when I washed it.

Old thread I know but where in London do you live?? F30s are not supercars, are they in such high demand (nick to order)??

Black Audis - different story apparently!

Of all the things to want to retrofit, I'm baffled someone would spend money for this. The key stays in your pocket, you unlock the car and push the button to start. Comfort access is a neat feature but it'll be expensive to do. Hardly seems worth it but I know thats subjective. I've looked into a few retrofits for my car and it seems very involved and cost prohibitive to give your F30 anything it didn't come with from factory. They have made it clear they want you to check those option boxes off or youre stuck.

CA is a great feature and I would spec it again. There is now waiting to unlock, you just place your hand on the door handle as normal the door unlocks. On the f31 you get a lock button on the boot, the button locks and closes the boot with one push.

Leave the house, fob in pocket... get back home fob still in pocket. As we don't need the 'key' to start the car, seems more natural not to handle the fob at any time. If we needed the fob to start the car, as in the E9x models, there would be no point to CA, as we'd have to handle the fob anyway.

I like it and would miss it now, if changing to a car without it.

As to a retrofit... can't see it as a cost effective thing to do, as it is never worth nearly £500 to start with, IMO, even as a 'factory fit' bit of kit.

+1. For me it has proved itself and I definitely would opt for it again!

The problem is only 328 can be spec from factory in China! Even 320 Luxuary Line couldnt do that! What a Luxuary!
