Alright folks, I just received a recall regarding the Turbo Oil Line. Apparently, if your car has a white smoke coming from the tailpipe, this may be the cause of the problem. I have an appointment for my 2013 F30 with 28000 miles within the next week or so. I will let everyone know what was done to it.

It is a Recall from BMW of NA. Here is the campaign number: 16E-A05. For those who live in California and are issue a Recall, a certificate will be given to the owner in case the DMV ask for proof of Emission Recall Campaign completion (stated in the letter). Hope this may help some of you.

I just checked on bmw.com/recall and my vin (MY 4/13 328i xdrive) doesn't show for any recall. Did yours come up on the site?

I got a letter from BMW of NA to make an appt with the dealership to have it fixed. Only those turbo that are defected will received a Recall Notice. I have a N26 by the way...

Got my letter this week too. MY12 328i w/ N26. Getting it done Friday.

This has been a known issue. There are a few threads on it.

The smoke is caused from oil getting past the turbine in the turbo iirc. The longer the car sits the bigger the smoke plume. If the oil line with the "check valve" in it should fix the issue but if it doesn't BMW has been replacing the turbo itself. The thing that doesn't make since is that the tech has to completely tear down the whole setup to replace the line, so if it doesn't fix the issue they have to do the same thing all over to remove/replace turbo.

I'm due for an oil change too. Hoping dumping the oil is part of the repair procedure so I don't have to pay for the oil change.

Nope, we're in Virginia & got the letter from BMW two weeks ago. We already had the oil line replaced the previous week when completing the last of the free maintenance on our CPO 328ix built on 10/18 2012 with 27K miles (turbo oil line, brake fluid, cabin filter, spark plugs, oil change, map update).

About time they did something about this, especially with multiple reports. The white smoke is normally when the car sits for long periods of time.

When I called my local BMW Service department maybe 1 month ago about large amounts of white smoke coming out of the exhaust, they said they would make an emergency appointment for it. If I can find the paperwork for the service, ill post it here

I noticed the white smoke on startup last week. Has anyone had luck with the recall outside of California? I searched on the BMW website for the recall and nothing came up for my car.

I still didn't get anything. I'm in NJ.
And just checked bmw.com/recall and nothing comes up for my VIN.

Nothing will show up on the BMW recall checker. I got the letter in the mail and was curious so I checked online but nothing came up. I took the letter to the dealer and they got it done.

I called BMW NA today. They said only safety recalls show up online. I gave them my VIN and they found the open emissions recall for this issue. I'm calling my local service center tomorrow to schedule an appointment.

Just called my local BMW, they said they didn't see any for my vin.

The dealer may have the same information available that BMW NA has, but maybe try calling BMW directly and see what they tell you.

I have a 2013 328i with the N26 engine. I took it to my local dealer on Friday for its 50k service (49,500 miles) and oil change. He informed me of an Oil Supply Line recall. He also mentioned it could cause smoke from tailpipe if it's not taken care of.
So I've been stuck in a 2017 330i all weekend and still today lol. Apparently they are still waiting on the parts for the recall.
But I received no letter and nothing comes up on recall website or any type of contact from BMW. It was a surprise to me at the dealer.

New to this forum. Glad to see many bimmer owners sharing their experiences and knowledge that validated my vehicle problem with turbo oil line. I have a 2013 328i F30. It reached 50,0000 miles last year, and warranty expired. I did not sign up for Extended Warranty....didn't think I needed it, because it's a bimmer!! Unfortunately, after warranty came this major repair that it's going to cost me $1700 (ouch!). As suggested, I called BMW Recall Center and was told my VIN is not on recall and if there is one in the future, I can submit a claim for reimbursement of the $1700. One question, turbo oil line seems to be a prevalent issue with various engine types, and the symptoms are identical (white blue smoke from exhaust pipe, occurs during cold start, etc.). I wonder when BMW would issue recall to cover all vehicles that experience the same smoke problem....
