One last F chassis.....F87!

Greetings chaps. I've a new addition to the car family incoming, a pre-reg M2!

Those that know my history will know this is after much ....much...... mucchhhhh waiting, excitement, pre-reading, launch car frustration, CS waitlist....and cancelled orders....the M2 love affair finally begins. There is (IMO) finally a bit of value in the car once you lop £7k off. Chuffed with my deal. Mini is staying for the Mrs to supplement the Kia Sportage weekend wagon. Full spec below....this brings my BMW F series chassis purchases to a ludicrous end. My rating below on ownership from between 7 months to 2 years:-
  • F10 520D - 4/5 solid car. Could get 60mpg if tried, looked 9/10ths an M5. One of BMW finest ever saloon shapes.

  • F22 M235i - 5/5 The one I miss really. EB2 and full M Perf kit. Pedal Offset killed it as I had the 6MT.
  • F82 M4 - 3.5/5 Wanted an M3 all my life. Got it and was disappointed. LCI and Comp Pack seem to address a lot of my gripes. Fast as F! Nosie so/so, you've read all the reviews and they're pretty spot on.
  • F30 335D - 4.5/5 Was an incredible deal at the time, very very capable car and was a nice spec with many toys. Ride height with XD annoying, so great to see a return to normal height with the G series cars!
  • F15 M50D - 3.5/5 Epic machine, and a great all in one car...except the fun to drive and nippy to park bits!

  • F56 Mini JCW - 5/5 What a smiles per miles car! Coilovers and JCW Pro exhaust take it a level above Cooper norm, epic fun and a car, along with the M235i, that had me driving out in the evenings for no reason whatsoever.

F87 M2
Pre LCI Car (hence the savings - not fussed about LCI changes but the new dials would be good. Happy to take a 'lesser' car)
  • Long Beach Blue
  • DCT
  • Steering Wheel Heating
  • Reverse Camera
  • Comfort Access
  • Sunroof
  • Exterior Mirrors Folding
  • Through Loading
  • Seat Heating
  • Enhanced BlueTooth
  • WiFi Hotspot
  • HK Audio
  • Speed Limit Display
  • Visibility Package (Xenons and Adaptive)
  • Sun Protection Package

I'm not going all in with M Performance kit as I think it just bloats this particular car. The side winglets especially detract from the looks IMO. Over time I might make some additions to keep to fresh and as I look to avoid my 8 months cycle! I've seen and been in the physical car in the showroom and really like the spec, aside from Elec Seats its almost fully loaded (I hate driving assistant!) for less that the price of a base new car.

I have a trip away coming up this weekend and looking to pick up Weds 26th July. Bring it on! Happy motoring chaps, stock pic below, real ones to follow but heck not really worth it, you know the car

Sounds a good choice. Interesting that large discounts are now available on the M2.

Presumably you must be in line for a free BMW at some point having picked up a dozen or so stamps on your loyalty card?

Saw an M2 in this particular colour in a dealer showroom late last year with carbon fibre m performance kit on and carbon tips on the m performance exhaust (which looked huge).
I had to wipe the saliva from my mouth several times. What a car.

They do a whole M2 kit for less than the price of an OEM diffuser ... however have a read of review #2 on their site if it's still. Even left up. Sales killer right there!

Brilliant Chris well done! I think the M2 will be a great little car to drive and more fun than a M3/4 around the twisties, from what I’ve read.

Good to see your opinions on all your cars.

Nice one Chris, great mini-reviews. Surprised the X5 didn't score 4+? Incoming M2 looks lovely and a good deal too.

Thanks Mashin......what was I thinking scoring cars Must have had a brain freeze at the time. They're all good of course, just trying in my mind to re-evaluate which was better looking back.....what memories (or lack of) you have from a car.

Nope the scoring is all good and very interesting. I just had the impression that you rated the X5 a little higher.

You can be MCarChris again!! (That was you wasn't it?!?!?)

Was in Sytner Solihull t'other day and just browsing saw an LBB M2 and thought phwoarr. Then I saw a boggo mineral grey and boy did that look mean too. The only thing that bothers me is the Dakota leather - I know I know, it's a minor thing, but you should be able to spec an M car up a bit.

Anyway glad you're back in an M - enjoy!

Haha thank you yes indeed 'twas I! I know what you mean about Dakota but it fits the lowly interior and I don't mind it that much really, has to put up with quite a bit, football winters! and nothing else is as robust.

I like the Alcantara additions and blue sticking helps to lift it. BMW sort of got left behind for about 5+ years on interiors, whereas the exteriors are mainly, superb. Still great signs in the 7,5 and even new X3 (compare old to new seats).

Great car! We had a LBB M2 here recently for full ACS conversion + Akrapovic and it was stunning. Made our white one look a bit plain!

Enjoy
