Locking wheel nuts

Swapped out my summer's for winter and in the process the garage mangled my locking wheel nut. Think it might have been on the way but they made sure to wreck it. Was left with 3 winter tyres and 1 summer. So I popped into the stealers and got charged the princely sum of £24 for a new nut!

They were able to supply you one locking bolt that uses the same key as the others?

A full set of locking bolts is about £50 iirc and that comes with a key for them. I suspect you got lucky that the dealer had a spare sat around, otherwise they'd charge you for the set.

If you take care the locking bolts are quite resilient, the main thing is not to let an impact driver anywhere near them - almost certainly what has happened.

The problem these days is everyone is in too much of a rush to take care with these sort of things.

Yeah same numbered key. Pulled out of a bag he had next to him. The pillock who was doing the swap was hammering it in until I told him to take it easy. They also managed to scratch up my alloys which i had powedercoated about 3 months ago. Not a good day. Ill be claiming for refurb costs of course.

It might be cheaper doing it yourself next time. A torque wrench a jack and a bit of patience should do the trick

I do wonder how many locking nuts get damaged or broken, through normal use? I suspect most are abused, over torqued or have been attacked with an impact gun.

Is it 140nm?

To be flair most wheel bolts are M14 or M12 in which case torque is 140Nm and 110Nm respectively. The only other thing he needs to remember is lefty losey righty tightly. Hardly mastermind

I have decided to change my own winter/summer wheels over so I can be as gentle as I like and wrap my wheel nut brace with something soft so I don't scratch my wheels.

Just ordered a rubber jack pad that fits in the rectangular jacking holes so I don't damage them with a trolley jack.

I will be taking off 442M summers and putting on 400M winters. Which nut's would I have so I know what the torque should be.

Was getting a tyre change onto same rims. Changed the wheels myself a little while back. Not that handless
